I've been having the same problem on a massive scale, and I totally empathise.

I can't really say whether it is the fault of the hardware or my own connection, which is pretty crud. I think I'll wait and see, maybe focus on campaign, until the opening flurry has died down. perhaps its just congestion.

Just because a new installment of CoD comes out frequently doesn't make it any less fun to play than its predecessors. I'm pretty excited for Black Ops. It would be cool if they made another CoD involving D-Day though where you can rush the beach.Ghost_702
Amen to this. There's no need to become a cynic and denounce the COD franchise for being repetitive. If the game is fun, who cares about whether it's predecessor was a cash cow? Who cares whether the multiplayer won't have changed much from previous games? Lots of people are saying that the first COD was the best. It wasn't, really. Black-Ops will be far superior, simply because of technological advances and advancement of the industry. You have just become a cynic, convinced that the originals have some sort of moral superiority over its children. Chill Out.

OK, looking through this, you guys seem pretty sharp. But this one will tax even your amazing brains.

It was 8-10 years ago.

It was on PC, as part of a compilation CD of countless tiny games. Some were full games, some were just trial versions of games from around that time. I recall there being a version of Asteroids (awesome multiplayer mode where you could set your bullets to send the other ship spinning off into the distance with a lucky hit), several games about dinosaurs, numerous card games etc. This was bargain bin stuff.

The game in question was a 2D point-and-click adventure game. It was played in first person, and you moved by clicking on the edge of the screen, whereupon you would turn 90 degrees to the right and see a new scene, and so forth. I can't put a name on the genre, but it was definitely point and click, collect the items, explore the dungeon map fare. There were two game types; one set in a temple where your objective was to collect treasure and return it to your ship, one set on a space station where you had to escape before the mad HAL 9000-esque computer kills you.

Certain small details persist in my mind. There was a giant eye-like enemy that killed you instantly behind certain doors. There was definitely a section in the temple game type where you encountered an old woman who asked you the 'Swallow' question from Monty Python. There was also an old wizard in a room filled with potions, who gave you his wand. There is a password of some significance in the temple level that sticks in my memory; "A1A2A3". Entering it somewhere in the space station level causes the mad computer to say "You've been playing to much [temple level]".

A name presents itself; "Venture". I have so far been unable to find any game of that name that matches the description.

Even the name of the compilation CD would be helpful, but this game is my ultimate goal. Good luck!

Hold the phone, I have just found out, after an age of digging, what the compilation CD was called.

It was called 100 Great Kids Games, and it was published by Broderbund for windows 95/98.

If anyone has ever owned this CD, or still owns it, and they can identify the game that I am searching for, that would be great.

No, but thanks for trying.

The Monty Python thing was just a certain little Easter Egg, Iguess, found at one point. The compilation I am talking about is one of those generic '999 games for kids' affairs, rather than attached to a particular brand. I think that the case may have been purple.

I play with a rubbish connection, (0.76Mb download, 0.92Mb upload) and have never been disconnected and rarely experience lag, especially in campaign online. My guess is that you should be fine.

I have to agree with the SWAT-haters. It's fine to have super-specialised restricted-weapon gametypes, but I would prefer it if they were not linked with Slayer matches. Swat and Snipers are fine in very small doses, on certain maps, but it should certainly not be chosen over other gametypes. Sometimes I want to play a good old-fashioned team game while enjoying the welcome addition of armour abilities. There should be a separate playlist for traditional Slayer.
