That's not saying much. Japanese gamers are mostly handheld casuals now. PS3 sales are laughably low.

Juken7

I think that makes the sales of FF13 even more impressive.

Not really. This is the first big budget Japanese game that appeals to the mainstream of Japan. MGS4 was the closest thing but it's gameplay was mostly designed by Westerners and was geared towards them.

Let's keep in mind that there will always be haters about everything, Uncharted 2 has them, SMG2 has them, MW2 has them, hell i'm pretty sure Tetris has them too, besides Famitsu gave it a pretty good score, i'm gonna wait for more reviews to see if the game is a good buy or not, right now, the game looks great for me, and if its that linear it wouldn't be so terrible for me, having in mind i'm having less time to play, so wondering around in a huge world is not something i really need right now.

madsnakehhh

Famitsu disgustingly overrates JRPGs and Japanese games. Lost Odyssey got a a 33/40 and Blue Dragon got 37/40. Even the ****astic games like Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant got 32/40 and 38/40 respectively.

By the standard Famitsu has set then FF13 is a terrible failure aka flop.

[QUOTE="Greyfeld"] yeah, because 1.5 million units moved in the first week in japan is a flop :roll:Greyfeld

Flop means the game failed to meet expectations either in terms of sales or quality. This game fails to meet expectations (of those who still think JRPGs can be as good as the PSX generation despite obvious proof otherwise), therefore, it is a flop.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

I played most of those games for the first time recently, therefore, that was after seeing far superior graphics whether they be in the more recent JRPGs or just plain better graphics in all genres. I have no nostalgia for these games since not only did I play them this generation but I also haven't had enough time to get nostalgic for them. I am juding them purely based on what I like.

I know it's hard for you to accept an opinion but you cannot discount it burely based on nostalgia or bias.

Also, birdy, by WRPG standards Persona 3-4 is definitely linear.

This gives more credibility to their opinion.

FF13 a flop confirmed. JRPGs are officially dead. FF13 was their last hope and it failed flat on its face.

Oh, that thread where I think I responded to you once? That thread where I was especially careful of my wording so as to not give the impression I had played tons of JRPGs? You mean that thread where I specifically never referenced my vast knowledge of JRPGs (ie its not large) because surprise surprise, I haven't played through a hell of a lot of the genre? I don't need to hide the fact that I'm not the most educated JRPG gamer, I never claimed I was. If you actually pay attention to what I say in those threads I make sure to reference my opinion in the best context I can. However, that really isn't the topic at hand. The topic is me thinking RoF will have a crap story, which by all accounts, I stand by.

You responded to me a minum of five times. Either way, whatever context you put it your comments in doesn't matter. You had the attitude that I was an idiot for knowing what most JRPG veterans know when you yourself were not qualified to even put your .0001 cents in. You shuold've have even gotten itno the conversation.

Link me to the thread. I'm curious now. I have a suspicion this actually didn't happen but if by some miracle it did (which it probably did not) I want to read it. As for putting my opinion in, uh, I can do so where I see fit, especially considering the context at which I address JRPG arguments asserts that I don't comment too deeply on what I don't know.

You have that bad of a memory? There goes more reason to ignore you when you speak about JRPGs. You probably don't remember the ones you've played so everything is new to you :D

Anyways, here:

You'll, of course, have to cycle through the pages.

Excuse me, who are you again?
Also, what thread are you talking about?

ActicEdge

The FF13 and BioWare comment related topics. You know, where you said JRPGs do change over time despite never being able to explain why and, admittedly, never having played most of them :D
