I'm not trying to pretend I haven't been gassing up the steam deck for a year and a half... I preordered it immediately on the day reservations opened. It's just that we've now got thousands of verified games an amazing team at valve constantly updating it, the best emulation and the best portable experience nce anywhere in gaming.

I pre-ordered a Steam Deck too. I went all in, so I got the higher end version and also the official dock. I have to admit, I was a bit worried at first because I'm a console gamer first. I thought there'd be a chance that I was wasting my money.

But I got a really good Humble Bundle deal (100+ games and 2,500 worth of software for peanuts) So I thought that in itself would make the Steam Deck pay for itself.

But to say I'm impressed with it, is an understatement. I'm playing games I'd otherwise not play, and with so many cheap games, who needs Gamepass? Especially when you can make your library huge in no time. Some games just work on it better than playing on a full screen, but if you want to full screen then there's the option with the dock. It's such a flexible machine. Plus the emulation available.

I love it.

I doubt Switch 2 will happen, unless its more powerful than the Steam Deck, which it won't be unless its a long way down the road.

@osan0:

Xbox Series S is available everywhere. Thats simply not the case for PS5 or Xbox Series X, even though Xbox Series X is easier to get hold of than PS5.

That said Xbox Series S was THE console to buy this Black friday. It was excellent value along with Gamepass. Those that made the decision also had in mind of eventually getting Ps5 along with it.

But is there any point in owning a Ps5 just yet? At that price point? As someone who buys PlayStations, there is nothing.

Covid

People playing free-to-play games (grinding and not paying)

Economy/inflation/oil prices

Lack of PS5/Xbox Series X consoles to buy

Lack of PC parts

Market saturation and Steam sales.

Emulation and people still playing Xbox 360s and Ps3s

Epic games giving away free games

People who'd normally spend on a new games just sticking to gamepass or PsPlus

There are several reasons I supoose. I think the market has peaked

Well since PS3 and Xbox 360 are my two favorite consoles of all time, I'd go with that one. It still feels like we really haven't gotten out of that generation. Has gaming really moved forward? People are still playing Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fallout, GTA V, Last of US from that GEN. It feels like we are going to get remasters/remakes from that gen for the next 10 years.

As someone who has a PS3 and PS4 version. And failed to finish both. I have zero interest.

Look how accepted the Series S and PS5 digital have been. I'm not going to bet on the future of gaming, but it's not looking out of the question.

Xbox Series S is £250 in the UK and is easily available everywhere, but the Xbox Series X is nowhere to be seen.

I can see digital sales continue to dominate physical sales, especially in the future. But there will always be a market for physical.

The first six months of 2021 saw 19.2 million vinyl album sales. A format that was supposed be killed off by so many others.

Sony and Microsoft will make a mistake in only offering digital only consoles after this generation.

But that has nothing to do with the Series S being digital seeing as the PS5 digital is sold out too. :-S

My point was that the Series S is accepted, not a best selling console.

If the Xbox Series S had a disk drive, I for one would pick one up.
