Microsoft's huge screw up explains why the PS4 might be in the lead, but it doesn't explain how both consoles are currently outselling the previous generation, based on the first two years of PS3 and 360 sales.
This is a weird article. I've had my pc hooked up to a plasma tv in the living room for 5 years now. I can use a wireless mouse and keyboard, usb extenders, or a 360 controller. The experience has always been awesome. Now everyone's talking about it because Valve slapped "living room" branding on their useless steam machines. Come on Gamespot. We don't need big corporations to dictate whether or not something is "good" or "advancing." Especially on a platform that isn't monopolized by a single company.
Spector's idea of a highly interactive game story is a valid one, but there's no reason to disparage other forms of storytelling. Maybe I want a cinematic experience in games. Maybe I want to create my own adventure based on some sort of structure that an actual writer put time and effort into.
The real problem is improving the overall quality of stories in games. Most games out there have generic story lines and cookie cutter dialogue. Others are too complicated and up their own ass. The stories in games usually feel like they could use another edit. It would go a long way in terms of replay-ability.
