Devil May Cry 2 O_O

Now THIS is what i thought a DMC game would be.

First let me start with a quick summary of DMC1. Wow. An amazing game that has easily crept into my all time favourites. I just never thought the DMC series was like this. Its pretty dark in atmosphere, terrific music, light but great exploration and strong difficulty. Coupled with Dantes personality, the experience all comes together as one of gamings great and i think its a shame i let it pass me for so long. I leave with one line

"I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight" Or something to that degree

On to DMC2

I really dont think its a bad game, or as bad as people say it is. Looking at it as a stand alone piece, i guess it gives hack and slash fans their generic fix. However looking at it as the sequal to DMC1, its absoloute garbage and i can see why people felt so betrayed. Particularly Kamiya if what i read is true.

The gameplay is hard to judge because whilst i think its an improvement overall, its handled worse than the first. The first game had you fighting sparesly and you were mainly exploring castles or falling in traps. The second game puts you in arena after arena of endless spawning enemies and really, the best solution to each battle is to button mash. Which leads me on to my next point. EVERY single fight can be one by using the guns. Removes any difficulty whatsoever and i literally stood back and kept mashing square against the final boss and beat him under 2 mins.

The control layouts are what i thought DMC1 was going to be like. So with the controls i wanted in hand, i funnily enough kept playing the game like DMC1, hitting wrong buttons and making mistakes.

Graphically, i dont know what happened but Capcom really dropped the ball. Everything looked so.....red, dull and muddy. No variety in the environment. Character models looked like they had more polygons but meh, cant save an ugly looking game. I dont know what happened to Dante, he looks so old and sounds like a different person, definately not the Dante i had grown accustomed to. Oh and the musics garbage too.

I dont even know/care what the story was about. Something about a demon, a girls redemption.........i dunno.

The game starts of ok but gradually gets worser till the second disk. 70% of it consits of water levels which has the worst controls every known to man. I would have quit right then but the games pretty short and i finished disc 2 in 1:10 mins (overall 3:00).

Overall, i reccommend you play it since it can be bought used around £0.70, but dont expect a good DMC1 sequal. I just hope the other 2 games lead off from DMC1 and not the 2nd. The third should arrive this Monday, I couldnt afford the special edi. so i went with standard. Heard its brutal but im a Demons Souls conquerer 8)

What i did love about it is how the combat is progressively getting closer to Bayonetta (my first DMC-ish game). I expect 3 to take that even further.

i got RRoD'd. Feels pretty bad........

2nd December, 2005 - 11 July, 2010. R.I.P

Its been a long run, i always knew it was going to happen but.....didnt think it would be that sudden. Blue Dragon froze on me twice and then BAM, there were 3 red lights laughing at me.

I knew i was out of warranty but i called MS anyway just to haggle and see if i could slip by with a free fix. The guy was pretty hesitant and it looks like i have to lay £80 to get it fixed which gives me an extra year of warranty. Screw that, i can buy a brand new Arcade model for £120 and get another 3 years warranty.

What makes it worse was that i was in my 360 season. I was replaying Blue Dragon which would have been followed by Lost Odyssey, Kameo, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean IV and any other game ive only played once.....*sigh*

Ive decided im not going to get another 360 till a game i want releases. The next game is Gears 3 so i guess that makes it April 2011? For now il just enter a PS3 season (replay AssAss Creed, Heavenly Sword, Uncharteds) and buy the multiplats i want for it (which i was doing anyway).

Unless its a Bayonetta case, il just wait.

I've finally gone HD!

After 5 years of not caring, stating it doesnt make a difference and justifying SD, ive finally took the leap. A nice little 21" that was given to me by a friend (for free) because he bought a 42" for his room.

First impressions: WOW. It really is as good as they say. Whenever i saw HD it was passing through an electronics store and tbh, it never impressed, although that can be because they havent hooked it up. But when i first set my PS3 to HD, i was mind blown. Not because of the graphics initially but because i could read and see EVERYTHING so clearly. I mean wow, everything just looks so smooth and slick.

I popped in a few games and i think FFXIII was the best looking. HD really makes a beauitful game even more so. I spent so much time just staring at the strands of lightnings hair. Uncharted 2 was jaw dropping and Killzone 2 didnt look that much different although it already looked amazing. Im also finding it harder to aim with everything so clear.

I started my Blue Dragon file and the intro looked so pretty. It looked like a CG movie. Im not comparing it to any movie but the animation and the style just didnt feel like a game. I played a bit of FIFA 08 with my bro and there were different animations and sequences. I didnt expect there were HD exclusive things.

Overall i am very very impressed. I still think the years of comments where people say "I cant go back after HD" are a load of bull, but i think HD is something no-one should miss out on and upgrade as soon as possible.

Devil May Cry........holy crap O_O

First a little back story. Skip to bold for impressions.

2010 has quite alot of games i want but last year i decided id buy the majority of them in 2011 and beyond. I only recently realised how rapidly prices drop in the UK (I picked up dragon age origins for £8.99 new) so il wait from now on. But there are some games that MUST be purchased on day 1 for full price. So far ive bought Mass Effect 2 and Bayonetta. Then il get Donkey Kong Country Returns and perhaps one other game.

So ive been looking at major series that i missed out on and have narrowed it down to 3. Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid and Slient Hill. Out of all the games out there ive only played MGS4 (which i loved). I recently picked up DMC1 for the high price of £0.78 and got to work today.

Anyway on to Devil May Cry now

holy crap, this game is bloody brilliant. Ive been playing it for the past 2 hours and have enjoyed it very much. Although im sort of confused.

DMC1 is very similar to Resident Evil (classic), but ive never even heard of these similarities. So you can guess how suprised i was when i played it. From the multiple doors, the font, the collecting and even the "You Are Dead" screen, ive been really really suprised. In a good way.

I guess you can say its my fault for never looking at a review but thats how i like going into games, not knowing as little as possible. I just thought after the 100s of things ive read about the game, i would have heard this. Its always being compared to heavy action games like GOW, NG etc. but from what ive played, the combat feels like the secondary part of the game whilst the exploration and simple puzzle solving takes the lead.

I played Bayonetta and hearing how similar it was to DMC i thought this game was going to be moving from arena to arena killing monsters. Coming off Bayonetta too, the combat feels really stiff. It just feels weird having similar moves to Bayonetta, but not having the speed and fluidity of hers. But still, i play games with the mindset of what year they were released in and i bet this was far above anything on the PS2 in 2001.

Im just under 2 hours in and im on chapter 14. I just had a quick look and it says chapter 23 is the final but for some reason the length feels perfect.

Guess thats about it. I always love discovering a new series. I feel like a kid in a candy shop with all these cheap games. I just wanted to ask, why shouldnt i get DMC2? Ive heard so much negativity about it. Keep in mind that i can also get it for
