An old post, but so incorrect. The objects are phone pieces, to call home. Four hours of falling down pits? Nope, if you know how to play you can beat the game in about four minutes on the hardest skill level. There are no police officers in the game, there's a scientist and an FBI agent, and they are not random; they walk around the various screens just as ET does. Please learn to play the game before you try to describe it.The point of the game is to collect the various object that creates who knows what, but you collect them all and try to get back to your ship. That's after 4 hours of falling into pits and having random police officers appear out of thin air to get you.

The profile for the PS1 game ET: Interplanetary Mission has two images of the gameplay, but they are from a different ET game. I have played through the PS1 game, and it looks nothing like those photos. In fact, nothing on the PS1 looks can look that spectacular.
The images come from an article that discusses a series of ET games coming out. Whoever made the captions for the photos incorrectly labeled them as the PS1 game. The article itself says the photos are from a PC version. So basically, someone needs to reassign the photos, or delete them.
