I have the same problem and in spanish we say that the controllers have a certain 'manya' or 'mana' there are *3 problems with your console, first check the 'serial code' in the back of the ps3, if it starts with cec followed by numbers it is American and you should be in the clear for now! *if it starts with numbers than cec, your console is Japanese (don't believe me, call sony support, they will ask for this info and tell you if it Japanese or not). If it is Japanese the error 80010201 that you get means either you cannot connect to the internet (american) because your ps3 is Japanese- for this you are screwed and cannot connect to the internet- This is a pure guess but if you want to desperately connect to the internet I suggest you buy a Japanese Ethernet cable (if the light on the back of the ps3 doesnt go on when you plug in your router) or do what it says here: http://pacroid.blogspot.com/2010/01/ps3-error-80010201.html. now to go more in depth on what your internet problem is; the ps3 could have been tampered with, or just is broken, my friend has connected to the internet before on it, but I can, when i try everything such as power cycling- which is when you turn everything, the router, the modem, the ps3, everything for about 2-10 min's and has still not worked. I really have tried it all and will not put everything I have done here, for a more extensive report on my problem check out my forum post here: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27558675&tag=topics%3Btitle *Now for the controller, If it is like mine, the controllers are being little **** and not syncing to the ps3, well, turn on the system wait exactly 1 min, than simply press the ps3 button once on the controller, if you did this wrong it should keep blinking, and blinking, and blinking. in this case there is still hope, keep waiting a minute and trying again, and again till it works, or plug in the controller and try it again and again. this will definitely work, also before you even try it, get a paper clip or a tooth pick and on the back of the controller is a little button sunken into the controller itself- press/click it and you will reset the controller, now plug it in and wait a minute and press the play station button simply once, if it doesn't work now, try again but without resetting the controller- i have to personally do this every time I want to use the darn thing- which proves what an inferior console this is and how sony cant make a good working machine to save there life. now once you have finally been able to use the controller assuming you figured it out- check if the X button is back and the O button is foward, what I mean by this is, check if to accept press O, and to cancel press X, if your settings are like this, it will be stuck like this forever, and there is nothing I know of that can fix this, your console is more than likely Japanese, Also when I say 'Japanese' I don't mean 'Cheap' or 'Crappy' or 'Flea Market', I simply mean that you probably purchased it from Japan, at a good store, or online, and they got it from japan. Also you can definitely tell if it is Japanese if you put in a movie that is in normal dvd format ( not blue-ray because blue-ray games are not region codded except in certain cases) and it doesn't work. well I hope this helps, at least with the controller, as for seeking other help, or professional help, I don't wanna put your cause down but I think I can safely say don't bother, cause Sony doesn't care about its good money paying customers and will not help if you have a foreign ps3, in fact there is no phone number for support if your not in the Us or in a major country, there is no phone number for Japanese ps3's and they will refuse to help you on the American hot-line, although I have to give them some credit- the Sony support people were very nice and tried to trouble shoot it with me. Well good luck on finding out how to connect, please reply soon if you have any news, thanks for your time.

Okay i don't really get this? where do I post on ps3 errors? I have one and I think the Gamespot community can help? Im not 'trolling'- whatever that means? or spamming? I just need help with a ps3 connectivity issue, and no where in the rules does it say I cant post that? so i will post my original post again: Hello everyone, i just joined the forum and was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem im having with my Japanese Ps3. When I 'test connection'- It says: 'An Ethernet cable in not connected' Also when I go through the internet connection settings manually, I press 'Test Connection', than under 'Obtain IP Address'-'Failed'. Also every now and then I get Error 80010201 on the top right corner of my screen. I have called sony and they say, because it is Japanese they cant help me, I know it should work because I have connected online at my friends house, we have the same ISP, this error just came out about a month ago. Personally I think that the Japanese model of my ps3 isnt detecting any kind of Ethernet cable for some reason, also when I try to connect wirelessly & press 'Scan' under the WLAN Settings I get the message 'A connection error has occurred. (80010201)' when I 'Enter Manually' and try linksys or linksys 2, under Obtain IP Address it says Failed again Also when I go through the internet connection setting and press 'easy'- It never does anything, I can wait for hours and I will never get a message, So please if anyone knows a way I can connect my Japanese Ps3 to the internet I will be forever great full! Thanks gamespot community! Also, when I plug in my Ethernet cable to my ps3, the light in the back doesn't go off?! And yes I already tried 'power cycling' unplugging everything for 2-10 min's
