Back when I was working technical support I had a call that went something like this...
Customer "Yes I just bought this PC from you and am really upset you sold me a lemon."
Me "What seems to be the problem?"
Customer "The speakers do no work!" (nearly yelling at this point)
Me "Ok do you have them plugged into the correct port on the computer?"
Customer "YES! What kind of idiot do you think I am?" (He is yelling at this point and I very carefully did not answer that question).
Me "Ok did you plug them into the wall?"
Customer "Excuse me?"
Me " Yes the power socket. These speakers have a powered amplifier in them and need to be plugged into a wall socket surge protector."
Customer "" (Hangs up phone. Guess we found out what kind of idiot he was).

As for the no power post above... That is an old techsupport story that has made the rounds for years (I heard it over 10 years ago). Originally the customer was using a Packard Bell and in the end the support tech said "I know what the problem is... Please box up the computer and send it back to the store from where you bought it..." Customer asks what was the problem.. The support tech replies "You are too stupid to use a computer"
