LISTEN to SUNCHILD

They're a band I really like. I discovered them because I'm a big fan of Jack Johnson, and Donavon Frankenreiter is one of Jack's closest friends. They collabed on a song from The Mango Tree, "Free."

In 1996, at the age of 18, he formed the band Sunchild. Frankenreiter was the lead guitar player but did not sing (he's got an awesome voice, I have his solo work too).

The guitar-work is very anachronistic, remniscent of rock from the 1970s. Some powerful riffs, and a raw, visceral feel to the guitarwork. The singing is pretty good too. The guitar solos are great, especially in "With My Morning" and "Vagabond Parade."

Almost nobody I know has heard of them. It's very difficult to find a copy of their album, California Honey - I saw a place online selling it for around 50 bucks.

I have the album. I uploaded it to youtube, and you can use this website http://www.video2mp3.net/ to convert youtube vids to mp3.

This is the first time I've ever tried to upload an album to youtube, and I kinda failed at getting the coverart in the video. So the video is just complete black...but the audio is perfect! And that's what matters. In any case, this is what the album looks like:

I know a lot of people give music recommendations here, and I know that your time is valuable, just give me 5 minutes. Listen to With My Morning. You're going to want to listen to Vagabond Parade after. You're going to want the whole album. And it's yours! I put a lot of time into the conversions, trying to make this great band's music HEARD!

checkin in

Things I've been up to since I last checked in.

-Almost getting kicked out of UCLA. That's smoothed over and I'm set to graduate in December.

-Geting arrested twice. Never drive drunk, guys. Ever. The other time is too embarassing to mention.

-Picking my life up.

-Reading, philosophizing, running, biking, skateboarding

-Writing

-Searching for love, failing, hating girls in Los Angeles, making friendly with girls in my hometown

I guess I've been up to a lot. I leave you with a lyric from a song I like:

I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know everything that shines ain't always gonna be gold. I'll be fine once I get it, I'll be good.

Snes aficionado?

Cool.

Also, I got a message with my last moderation that next time I'm moderated, I might be banned.

Would that even be a bad thing?

:o

Voting Apathy

I haven't registered to vote, and I really don't feel like I have any incentive to. I don't want to vote.

First of all, the effort. I'll have to fill out this pretty long form. And after that, I'll have to actually wait in a line to vote for a candidate...wasting more of my time.

Second of all, I have issues with registration. I'm a libertarian, IF I did register, I wouldn't want to register as a Democrat or Republican, because I'm a libertarian and suppose I draw from tenets of both. I dislike the two party system, because it divides the country and encourages entrapment of the mind and conforming to schools of thought. That is to say, many people's viewpoints on matters are determined by which party they belong to. The whole two party system perpetuates dogma, and that's not what this country needs any more of. Registering independent is an option, but not for me. You have limited rights as a voter...can't vote in primaries for republican and democrat, which is something you should be able to do.

Third of all, I have issues with how the electoral system works. Candidates only pay attention to swing-states (states that are neither firmly republican or democrat) and it assures that states that are not believed to be competitive will be disregarded during the campaigning process. ALSO, it discourages voters. If you're a democrat in Alabama, you'd might feel like your vote would be worthless, and thus would not vote. Also, we have seen that a candidate can win without winning the popular vote (remember 2000?). If a popular vote were implemented, this issue would be removed, making EVERY vote count.

Fourth of all, I'm not in love with any one candidate (except Colbert, but I don't live in SC, and he doesn't stand a chance anyways ) and I feel like I'm doing a favor to everyone by not just slapping a name down and voting without a purpose.

Fifth of all, call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think there is a lot of corruption and shadyness in this whole area. The recount issue in 2000 makes me feel like it is a certain possibility that money may be being transferred under the table to ensure certain votes be discounted. It feels to me like voting only really exists to give citizens the illusion that we live in a democracy.

I'm interested to see the results of this poll. It seems like a lot of users here are politically charged.

/This is by far the longest post I have ever made on gamespot. I expect to see many "tl;dr" responses, or maybe no responses at all

Fight Club

I finally saw Fight Club...and now I understand why the movie was something of a cult phenomenon. That movie was ****ing incredible. I know this place isn't the place for movie reviews, or any of that, but this movie was pretty profound in its effect on me.

Cinematography is up there with the best I've ever seen. Acting too - certainly the best performance I've ever seen out of Brad Pitt, and one of Norton's best too.

The plot is not just about men fighting each other...it's so much deeper... a profound statement on consumerism and a man's rebellion against both it and his own psychological chaos.

It's a pity it received no oscar nominations.

I watched it on some cable channel...under the info listed I saw it was being marked as a 2 star movie. I'd give it 4 stars.

Point loss for this?

I posted this in ask the mods:

I'm having a hard time being respectful in this post because I am not pleased and I think you guys are getting ridiculous on the moderations. Sorry in advance, I am trying to type this cordially.

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/moderate.php?mod_id=583513&view_mod_details=1

I was given a point loss for
Illegal Activities -- e.g. Begging and/or Providing ROM/Warez/MP3/Cracks/etc

Some guy was asking for a demonoid invite in the topic. Here was my reply:

"I have a demonoid account, but I'm not sending you an invite. If you screw things up and get banned, I might too. And I don't know you - you only have 1 post, so I'm not very trusting.

Sorry."

Let' see, am I begging? No. Providing roms/warez/mp3/cracks/etc? No!

I'm doing exactly the opposite, I'm NOT providing, I'm NOT sending him an invite! I don't understand the point loss. I know torrents and downloads are a taboo here, but this wasn't even talking about torrents in particular, it was talking about a website, demonoid.

****ing ridiculous. Not to mention that I'm getting this moderation now, when this thread was locked 3 weeks ago.

///End what I posted in ATM.

That was insane. Congratulations GS mods. :|

Why do you post on GS OT?

Is it because of the quality of the users? Or is because of the amount of forum traffic?

For me, it's clearly the latter. The quality of the users is not very high (the median user, anyways). Just look at the OT board. Over half of the topics are absolutely worthless, and the vast majority of the polls are even more useless.

But there are a few intelligent and genuinely funny posters on OT. You might be reading this blog.

Have you ever enjoyed a thread thoroughly only to be dismayed that it became locked?

Have you ever longed for a community that is full of awesome users - not spammers and 12 year olds?

Have you ever thought that some of the GS fads are exceedingly lame?

And do you want more posting freedom?

You might want to check LL out.
