raid 0 for speed.
raid 1 or 5 for redundancy

You'll want to put your games on a raid 0 - array, definitely.

hey everyone i was just woundering wats a better video card the x1950pro or the x1950xtx and wat eva one is 3etter how much better is it then the other one ??

burning_ice11
x1950xtx is better. It is the TOP end ATI card, not to say that it even compares to the 8800gtx. The x1950pro is a lower top end card. The pro doesn't have quite the specs of the xtx, but it's still pretty good. I'd probably be willing to pay about 50 extra bucks for the xtx.

There are loads of arguments to which edition of Vista to be going for - 32 or 64 bit. IMO, 64-bit is not showing a lot of advantages at the moment, but you might as well go 64-bit Vista for future proofing. I'm not sure if all apps will work though.Cyborg-21
In the future, for a game to be windows gaming certified, it must be 64bit compatible - if that clears anything up. Also, if you buy the retail version of Vista (any vers) it includes both 32bit and 64bit copies.

[QUOTE="aft_lizard01"]Yes it will down speed to the lowest ram, however 200mhz is what it should show for PC3200, after all its ddr400 which is kind of misleading, seeing as it has confused you. In reality its 200mhz X 2=400 thats why they call it double data rate(DDR). Also yes it would be smart to remove your pc2700. Axecident
why would it be smart to remove my pc2700 512 ddr? Then I be back to just 1 gb of ram. Is it faster and better and how???

The fastest speed your mobo will allow your total ram to function at is determined by the speed of the slowest dimm (ie your pc2700 ram).

As I'm starting to learn more about PC hardware (I'm in my first semester), it just occured to me that I'm not entirely sure about how developers have adjusted the advent of multicore processors. I'm curious if games in general are compatible with multicore processors or if PC gaming is still stuck on the single core model?
MarcusAntonius
At the moment, multicore support is dismal. Yet, I know that Valve plans to have multicore support with the release of episode 2, for physics and whatnot.

I'd upgrade to a c2d or c2q. The problem is you'd need a new motherboard too.

3/10. Make sure you know which slots correspond to which cards and you're golden. Hook up the power cables. See if the thing boots. Heck, in some cases you don't even need to use a screw driver.

Earlier today I re-arranged my room and moved my computer to the other side. After hooking up all the components and plugins I tried to power up my computer and nothing happened. So I unhooked every thing and checked all my plugs and they were secure. Any suggestions?spencer1177
Check all the power switches. On the back of your computer, on the power strip, etc. Try plugging other things into the power strip. If that doesn't work, then it's the power strip. If they do work, then it's a problem with your pc. Plug your PC into the socket directly. If this works, idk, something got messed up w/ your strip. If it doesn't, the problem is most likely the PSU.

From what I've heard, the 64 bit version of vista isn't compatible with a lot of programs, but after looking at a compatibility chart it looked like most of the programs tested worked. Does anyone know what the most major compatibility issues are? Are there some really common programs that won't work in the 64 bit version?

How long do you think until the issues are mostly fixed?
jnhay
Drivers are the primary issue with Vista 64bit. Most drivers aren't as compatible with the 64 bit version, meaning that your devices are less prone to work. However, as the 64bit OS is more adopted, drivers will become more available.

LordEC911 is probably going to get pissed. The search function works (now). NEway, Macs are more expensive, but they are indeed better for film editing (imovie, final cut). PC's also can run more software, and there are some pretty good commercial media recording/editing software available.frost_mourne13
This is very true. Fist though, I'd ask if you're getting a laptop or a desktop. Personally, I've found Mac laptops to be nicer than PC laptops - recently. HOWEVER, if you plan to get a desktop for gaming/etc, by all means get a PC. They trounce mac desktops - no comparison in affordability, etc.
