Keep the Dell unit inside the case and all hooked up to the computer, but leave the side panel off. Then hook the Corsair's PCI-e power connectors to the HD4850X2, and hook the Corsair up to the wall. The power supply won't start like that alone, so you'll need to jump the green wire on the 24-pin connector to any of the black wires on the same connector. Turn the Corsair on first, then turn on the Dell, and the HD4850X2 will essentially have its own dedicated power supply to run off of, and should work just fine with your setup. I understand now, thank you. I'll give it a go and see what happens altho if I'm not back within 2 hours can someone come looking for me ;)
Just hook the graphics card up to the power supply, and then jump out (short the green wire to any black wire) the Corsair to start it up. That should give you plenty of power for the graphics card.RayvinAzn

Hi, I use a Dell 390 Precision for all the running of my office based programs, its a decent spec and about 16 months old and I use it now and again for gaming (within its limitations) as I have a Matrox triplehead card attached. I'm in the process of building a new gaming pc but in the meantime I wanted to test my new graphics card in the Dell (It's a Radeon HD4850 x2). This is where I run into problems. In order to run the card properly it needs a bigger psu than the 375W in the Dell. I have a new Corsair 750W psu but if I install this the Dell won't boot up into windows no matter what I try. I can see my two hard discs in the BIOS but the computer just won't boot. At first I thought the Corsair psu was faulty but I installed it into an old HP Compaq which I use as a back up pc and it worked fine. So, two questions; 1: Is it possible the Corsair psu is not compatible with the Dell machine, why won't it work? 2: Does anyone have any ideas as to what psu I can use which will work in the Dell machine. I have asked Dell this question but nobody there will give me an answer. Regards
Hi all, I would like to build a cool pc from scratch and would like some advice/tips on what parts to get. Last pc I built was years ago now and I'm out of touch with everything that's available these days, it's so overwhelming! I already have a brand new Corsair 750W psu and a Sapphire Radeon 3850 x2 graphics card, but apart from that anything else goes. My budget is around $1000 Regards
