Back in the days when I wasn't into fps at all, I played the demo of Deus Ex for the heck of it and thought it was so awesome that I went and bought it. I also bought Swat 3 after playing its demo.

Although I much prefer a longer game, I would rather take a short game packed with fun over a long game that is repetitive or boring. For example, I enjoyed Silent Hill 2,3 and Portal a lot more than Oblivion with its thousand fetch-quests. Some games are fairly lengthy but get very repetitive after 4-5 hours. If the level design stays the same throughout the game and there are no variations of gameplay (when you feel you've been doing the same thing for hours and you can tell it's not gonna get better) and no interesting story to keep it going, it can get pretty boring. On the other hand, I think waiting for a price drop is smart if you buy a game that is short.

You can use keyboard/mouse on ps3 but most games dont support it (Killzone 2 doesnt for example). The only game I can think of that supports kbm is Unreal Tournament 3. If you really wanna use kbm though you can always buy a FragFx. It works on every games I think

How long do you hold it? it has to make a beep sound. I think if you hold it for 10 seconds or so it should reset. If it doesnt work I'm not sure what else would. I just know that flipping the switch at the back may corrupt your HDD so I would try to avoid that

Hold your finger on the power button on the front for a couple of seconds, it should turn off. Dont turn it off with the switch on the back

FPS/RPG was really good in the first Deus Ex. RPG/strategy can be pretty interesting too, like in Warcraft 3.
