This game is the closest thing to the real deal as they get right now it would seem.

There are a lot of other good alternatives (which I will list) but they arnt playable or only available through pre-pay alpha release, not to mention they stray from the original spirit of the game in ways that hard fans cant stand for. People that are into casual gaming or looking for the nostalgia of XCOM Enemy Unknown wont have anything to complain about but the core of XCOM's gameplay is lost in most of the remakes, except UFO: Alien Invasion.

Any old fans of XCOM will desire to build multiple bases around the globe with a strategy while micromanaging research, manufacturing, soldiers, vehicles and so on. Do you build 1 main HQ and scatter smaller bases across the globe for radar coverage and interception? or do you build evenly across the globe with bases capable of sustaining themselves independantly, spreading production and research across multiple bases? The freedom of being able to manage your anti-alien organization however you want was a huge feature of the game play mechanics and gives a sense of control and immersion.

UFO: Alien Invasion Delivers all the control and management of the original XCOM and more. Everything that was XCOM Enemy Unknown is how UFO: AI works but much more upgraded and with more details, such as extensive equipment or operational reports available for you (the commander) to read/review at your discretion. The info provided is quite entertaining and relevant to your ultimate mission, The protection of Earth and all humans against any alien threat. The 3d combat sequences are also faithful to the original and you will find most of the same tactics you used before in XCOM EU will hold value in UFO: AI.

SO yes.. UFO: Alien Invasion is the true spirit of XCOM Enemy Unknown. Too bad its unfinished as of yet, but the folks responsible for this greatness are sure to finish, short a Mayan apocalypse or something..

Here is a list of XCOMish games out there.

If you think 15 bucks a month is expensive your 10-16 years old or your broke, in which case you should stop playing games for a little and find a better job to support your addiction. You could spend $50+ in one day at the park or a pool hall so wtf is the big deal with paying for a game that should keep you entertained for a few days?

*off topic* what is with you cigarette and booze haters? Do you have to say things that insinuate that people who smoke or drink are self-destructive idiots? I smoke and drink, and I keep to myself (except this rant:P) but at least once a week a have some yacko try to tell me about how bad it is and that I should quit, like they give a $hit about me! DUH its bad for me! DUH it costs me Oooo 105$ a month! I smoke because i like to, and ill probably die of Emphysema(which is painfull). Some folks would say "oh you say that now but when your dying of lung cancer you'd wish you didnt smoke!", same of anything that goes wrong after a long time, like the surfer that drowns, or the fire spitting guy in Las Vegas that lights his face on fire after years of work.

We all make the choices and live with them. If you feel sorry for smokers and/or drinkers then do them a favor and shut up! Life is bad enough for them huh? lol. Shame on people for enjoying things with the one body they will ever have.
