Pebbles008 Blog

Whoa is this site

Its pretty dead, in fact I think it is dead...sometimes I hear something, but its my echo, gone are the days of the Pebs vs Filo fights, gone is the CoB fanboyisms, gone is the DFan wondering if he is a she or she is a he, gone is Bigtruck who inspires us to listen to Doom, gone is the glory days, yet I find myself still here. I guess im hopeing for something to happen, but I doubt it will. I visit to remember, remember the 5th of September(or something like that, Watch V-For Vetteta).

Deathcore

Yes, Im going to talk about a sub-genre of a sub-genre of Metalcore. Deathcore is bands who are highly influced by death and Melodic Death Metal with some hardcore influceces. These bands are down right brutal but somehow still very melodic, and some are pretty progressive. Heres my top 5: Between the Buried and Me - Progressive Deathcore...some disagree on calling them it, but the lyrics and death metal influces are present All Shall Perish - Deathcore at its finiest when it comes to being brutal and melodic at the same time Glass Casket - Drummer from BTBAM, very interesting solos The Black Dahlia Murder - Deathcore the closest to Melodic Death, very interesting dual vocals Job For A Cowboy - Closest to Hardcore, than the other three Anyone else have any sugestions on bands like them?

Top 10 Metal Albums of 2006

Top 10 Metal albums of 2006 10 - “Allegiance” by As Blood Runs Black - This is not only a great album but it is a debut album from an American Hardcore/Metalcore that doesn’t know follow the same boring routine of screaming into a microphone with mediocre music behind. The drummer is one of the best I’ve seen mixing brutal drumming with somehow great melodic drumming. The guitars somehow go into the songs cutting in and out creating very entertaining and far from the same old Metalcore. Songs to check out are “My Fears Have Become Phobias”, “Hester Prynne”, and “Brighter Side Of Suffering”. 9 - “Nocturne” by The Human Abstract - Can anyone say Progressive Funk Metalcore, that’s what this act is about. There guitars are all over the place, the bass is awesome, the drummer is good enough to hang with these guys which complete another debut album like number 10 for success. The vocalist clean vocals are ok but his screaming or yelling is what keeps it interesting, he doesn’t get high pitched but keeps it very hearable and fits right in with the album. This band is about atmosphere, mixing in rage with beautiful music with the guitars to give the good atmosphere as one might say BTBAM has with there songs. Songs to check out “Mea Culpa”, “Movement from Discord”, and “Vela, Together We Await The Storm”. 8 - “III: In The Eyes Of Fire” by Unearth - This album was expected, Unearth has been getting progressively better album after album. This is third album coming off a very good album years prior to this. Unearth in this album is a bit more melodic and a bit more faster, and strayed a bit from there hardcore roots more into the melodic Metalcore category with speed solos and brutal vocals that capture the anger of lyrics. This album is a bit more progressive than their last two because they seem to found away to stray away from excessive breakdowns as many Hardcore/Metalcore bands do. Top this bottom this album is a hard one to stop listening to, plus the album cover is pretty sick. Songs to check out “Giles”, “Sanctity Of Brothers”, and “So It Goes”. 7 - “As Daylight Dies” by Killswitch Engage - Here is a veteran band that just will never give up, Killswitch Engage has really kept it going and there not going to stop in this album. They are that rare breed of Melodic Death Metal influenced Metalcore that keeps it heaviness but still has its hardcore/punk influences. They also get change it up from album to album like this album like “End of a Heartache” has there new lead singer who shines with his very good clean vocals by really putting his soul on the emotional parts of lyrics (but not being whiney is the key). Then transforming his anger to his harsh yelling, that follows perfectly executed breakdowns. These guys are the true kings of consistency in Metalcore, and they prove it in this album. Songs to check out “My Curse”, “For You”, “Still Beats Your Name”. 6 - “The Scattering of Ashes” by Into Eternity - Progressive/Death/Hardcore Metal…nothing like that right? Into Eternity is has really out done them selves in this album. Their last two albums were good but nothing compared to this, they finally came out with a brutal, melodic, and catchy album all the way through, and not just good points in an album. The guitars can fly up and down the scales at speeds almost of Dragonforce, and their drummer knows how to keep up with this very furious double bass to give that thump when needed for a great head banging. The vocals/bass player has a very great scream with a raspy vocals, combined with the lead singers very good clean vocals and death growls really give you head a spin when you got three distinct vocals attacking you per song. Songs to check out “Severe Emotional Distress”, “Nothing”, “Surrounded By Night”. 5 - “The Fall of Ideals” by All that Remains - YAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOWW!!!! That’s what happens when you put the album into your CD player. The lead singer screams at you, and your thinking, aren’t these guys Christian? This my friends is some brutal melodic Christian metal at it finest. Mixing in Christian like lyrics, to brutal double basing with hooky solos to overall make a very catchy album to make you sing the chorus till you have had enough of it. This album is very much more accessible to new Metalcore listeners that like catchy hooks and killer solos, and it shows how much they have grown from a very mediocre first try. Songs to check out “The Calling”, “Not Alone”, “The Air I Breathe”. 4 - “Ashes Against the Grain” by Agalloch - Finally we are out of the woodwork of Metalcore, and into the house of Folk Black Metal. Here is a band that has the song writing skills and instrumental skills to create great atmosphere even Opeth can be impressed with. They have that down to earth type feel and heaviness you can just almost taste when the drummer hit’s the symbols while the guitars do its work to hook you into that atmosphere. This album almost puts you into the forest, and into the lyrics of what they are talking about, to give you the sense of the destruction happening. These guys don’t need catchy riffs, or a chorus to be good. Every songs has a purpose and every second is not wasted in their 8 min plus songs. Songs to Check out “Limbs”, “Falling Snow”, and “Not Unlike the Waves”. 3 - “Come Clarity” by In Flames - What can I say about this album, let alone this album. This album is what turned me into the direction of Melodic Death Metal, and holds a special place in my heart. It was so hard to make this not #1 but this is by far their best effort but even so they blow most out of the water (see only two other albums beat them). This album is much more emotional than their older albums, and also this album is very most a progressive landscape of the new In Flames with some Hardcore elements in which is interesting because Metalcore was created by Melodic Death, but this album is Melodic Death showing elements of Metalcore. Many would just turn off right here, but this album is different from anything I’ve heard. The heaviness of the songs, show the emotional hardship of the songs that really show the anger in what the band is showing us in their lyrics. If you are up for something new in Melodic Death Metal then this is the album to check out, Anders vocals are very well done to match the style in the music, and also this album is quite catchy. Songs to Check out “Reflect the Storm”, “Come Clarity”, “Crawling Through Knives”. 2 - “10,000 Days” by Tool - This might shock people but this is not the best album of 2006, and it was so hard to do so being a die hard Tool fan but the number one deserved the spot. This album was awesome, but probably not their best effort but very close to it because of the more lighter progressive elements they showed in this album. Tool has been known for their dark eerie lyrics, which a heavy bass and odd timed riffs. This album is nothing like their previous album, and a lot more emotional to Maynard’s heart we though we never would see. The album title is approximately how many days his mother suffered with cancer and she finally lost her battle to it. The lyrics show the soft side of Maynard and show the great skills Tool has on creating long majestic songs at no point get bored to. The two part song Wings of Mary talking about his mother is like an epic masterpiece we all knew Maynard had the skill of doing and did it. This album has heart and that’s why it is my number two. Songs to check out “Vicarious”, “10,000 Days”, “Right in Two”. 1 - “In a Flesh Aquarium” by Unexpect - Yes, this is the best album of the year in Metal, not only is it great in musicianship it is something that has never been even dreamed about. Its so crazy, its so out there it has to be number one just on its creativity. This album is was everything I thought I would never like, but it has really stretched out my horizons and how I look at music nowadays. The drummer with his pounding double bass the violin, the 9-string Base player, the guitars going every which way, the piano, the death growling, the great vocals by their lead woman lead singer. All this in one band, and in this album it was all put together. Really I don’t know where to describe this album, but it has the heart and the great song writing now one can imagine. Each song is a emotional roller coaster you never want to get off of, because its so different and so unlike anything you have ever heard. If you have a open mind about music, I mean a real open mind, this is a great album from you. There you have it my Top 10...Here are some honorable mentions that just barely didn’t make the cut. 11. “Pitch Black Progress” by Scar Symmetry 12. “A Death - Grip On Yesterday” by Atreyu 13. “Blood Mountain” by Mastodon 14. “Music For The Recently Deceased” by I Killed the Prom Queen 15. “Sirens” by It Dies Today

Top 10 Metalcore Bands

I have had enough of people hateing metalcore because they don't get into the right bands like Atreyu, As I Laying Dying, Lamb of God and all those hardcore metalcore bands that are mediocre at best...So heres my list of the Top 10 Metalcore Bands: 1 - Avenged Sevenfold: These guys learned from the best of Iron Maiden and Metallica and made one great band. They mix in the Metalcore style with great songwriteing with great solos and make it so even those mainsteamers can enjoy. Even though I kinda hate how these poser "City of Evil" fans are makeing A7X look bad, behind those guys this band has delived Two super albums that in my opinion can be the best albums of all time. 2 - Unearth: Mixing in harsh vocals, with breakdowns with the tightiest guitar riffs that hook in just ever so perfectly. These guys make speed metalcore riffs that don't slow down the song but yet make it faster. Each album they get better and better. 3 - Trivium: Triviums singer has amazing range going from strong overpowering vocals to very mild vocals within seconds. But thats not the best part, the long guitar solo riffs make them who they are...mixing almost mainstreamish music to sometimes rather brutal metalcore in one song is what impresses me. 4 - Between the Buried and Me: This band is out right crazy, yet brillant! These guys album, or even song will feel like a emotional rollercoaster in which will leave you saying "wtf was that!" after a few plays. Combineing alright brutal vocals and breakdowns too the most beautiful music ever made from a metelcore band in the same song. 5 - Killswitch Engage: Im not a huge fan of KE but I am very impressed with their song writeing and overall feel of the songs. These guys impress me but not my style...melodic death influcences are present...all in all great band 6 - Chimiara: Out right brutal hatecore metalcore, if you are angry heres the metalband fore you. Their riffs are not catchy but very hooky and just drives the musics faster and faster. Love to listen to the band while working out. 7 - Shadows Fall: Like Killswitch they are more influcenced by heavy melodic death bands, and have that heavyness that sets them apart from other metalcore bands. Their new album is something impressive to look at. 8 - All that Remains Yes, they are christain metal, and they are by far the best band in that catigory. Their singer has amazing range, their drummer is good, and they have catchy solos and songs. 9 - As Blood Runs Black This band has probably the best double bass drummer of all the metalcore bands. Their very brutal, and have great breakdowns and hooky riffs. Just got into this band, rather new... 10 - Darkest Hour This band is like chimaira with thier brutal hate style, but the vocalist has a nice clear strong vocal style that attracts me. Their pretty hooky with their riffs, I also just got into this band. So their you have it 10 Awesome Metalcore bands too look for

Metallica S&M

I bought this cd and I was very impressed by this album, it was probably the best ever live performance by anyone. The San Francisco Orestra really did a very good job writeing music to fit into the Metallica tunes and created a masterpiece of a performance. Top 5 Songs: "No Leaf Clover" "Wherever I may Roam" "One" "Master of Puppets" "Enter Sandman" If your a thrash metal or even classical music you will love this cd...really if you like music in general you have to respect what they did, its just amazingly well done:)
