I'm a 50-something hex and counters wargamer by background (since the late-1970s) who started playing mainly XP-era PC based games (but dabbled previously in a number of DOS & Win95 era games in the x86 PC era and even had a few games on the C-64!). Got more fully into PC gaming around 2005 and this is what bought me to GameSpot in 2008 and to writing reviews and blogs. I'm onto my second PC rig (excluding laptops) but it's an XP so I will need to upgrade in early 2014 due to it no longer being supported.
Finally started playing games on PS3 in mid-2013. I prefer historically themed games to anything sci-fi or fantasy (well, except for Star Trek & LOTR themed games). Started out doing a few split screen games with my son on his PS2 and later PS3 and ended up buying my own PS3 so I could play games more suitable for my age and interests.
More into first person, tactical and 3rd-person shooters like COD, MOH, Rainbow Six, GRAW, Max Payne and Saboteur. More recently discovered "open world" games like Saboteur (my all time favourite), Scarface, Assassins Creed, GTA-series and GUN. I don't mind the odd RTS like the Total War series as they hark back to my wargaming background.
Gradually coming around to thinking the whole PS3 experience is much easier than "optimising" games (ie getting them running) on the PC (well, my XP-vintage PC anyway). That said, I still have the occasional challenge in getting my opposable thumbs to engage meaningfully with the PS3 controller especially for button mashing sequences. My son and I are still working our way through our growing PC and PS3 games collection.
