Great review that fairly balances the shortcomings of Far Cry 2 with its strengths. I enjoyed the game and like you clocked up almost 100 hours of real time playing it. Did you also detect the shades of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" as in "Spec Ops: The Line"?

Anyway glad to see you are still around and playing and reviewing games! :-)

Hmmm, cynical game design ... or cynical review.

The glory of this Infinity, for me at least, is in the "workmanlike" ranking up and working through the tech tree in online co-op (or occassional deathmatch tourneys) games. I have no problem undertaking 3 to 6 (or more) co-op missions per day before, between or after bouts of more serious gaming. Then on weekends having built up stocked fuel through the week having a mini-marathon using contracts to boost progress. Sure it's a chore ... but what MP based game, of any genre, is not repetitive IF you want to progress to better gear or "status".

I'm sure to be in the minority in enjoying the more grounded "real world" of Ace Coombat: Assault Horizon despite the over-emphasised "close combat" mechanic it uses. The Infinity SP campaign unfortunately does not float my boat ... probably because I came into the Ace Combat series with Assault Horizon and have no real investment in the earlier games' mythos.

Infinity is a fun "popcorn" game with a tech tree brimming with real world and totally hypothetical aircraft and weaopns, just calling out to be explored. Rest assured ... it will take lots of flying ... lots and lots ... to unlock planes and weapons systems and accumulate in-game currency to improve your aircraft. What's not to like?

Recently WWII "piston era" planes have been introduced ... not convinced this will garner too many fans ... Birds of Steel it is NOT.

@Korvus85

Looked at your profile and noticed you have submitted 7 reviews ... BUT they do not show up when I click on what should be the trigger ("REVIEWS" tab) to see them???

@Korvus85 @Perth2008 No never saw it before, but then I didn't subscribe to the RSS feed, which may(?) have triggered it in the past or I perhaps just had it disabled via NoScript.

Hmm, first impressions are not overwhelmingly positive. Seems like most of my content, namely past blogs and reviews, are still existing but some other stuff is currently AWOL. I REALLY did like the "old" GameSpot as it was quite intuitive and I had "my" profile/blog page nicely laid out . I echo comments about the annoying "live" comment pop-up box (lower right).

The new layout seems way too busy for my liking and I need to use Firefox to view the new GameSpot properly (the old one was still OK with IE 8). So, quite underwhelmed and wondering what actually prompted the "makeover". Like many I preferred "Classic Coke" to "New Coke"!

COD has been a successful series of FPS games with a longer lasting visual appeal, especially in the earlier games (not shown here), than its main competitor the MOH series, however MOH certainly caught up in its Pacific Assault and Airborne releases. As to the static sky ... well, usually too busy to spend that much time trying to identify the various cloud formations ... but anything that avoids slowing down the main action is fine by me!
