Gamemaker - Life changer

Time to updated this blog of mine I guess. It's been a while no doubt.

The past years have been a constant movement forward, with a steady climb up, both exhausting and worrying as well as exciting.

For two years I have been studying Game developement, with varying results.

I gave up the 3D part and focused on project management and design instead.

During this period I have done two major school projects and one live project.

Sky Champs - Free for all deathmatch based balloon fighting game

Secret of Time - Adventure game with time manipulation and action

Additionally I managed a visulization of an industrial company that sells indoor climate systems.

These three projects and overall work at Gamemaker earned me an internship at GRIN in Stockholm Sweden.

And.. well I am now employed and working at the upcoming Bionic Commando.

What can I say.. My life is goood.. :D

A day at Gamemaker

I have been on several forums and websites but rarely seen people that are studying or working in the business.
I thought it might be time to write a diary of a game designer student.
This blogg will be more of a recap of what has happened so far in my career.

About two years ago I went out in the world (Sweden) to pursue my dream of working in the buisness of computer games.
But I lacked the experience of drawing or any type of artistic skills so I took a one year program on a post gymnasial school.
I learnt Maya and several skills in drawing, went from drawing stick figures at best to rather good sketches.
I also met alot of friends since we all had movies and games as a common interest.
For the first time I felt like I belonged somewhere.

In September 2005 I went to Arvika, starting this two year long course of Game design and 3D-art at the school Gamemaker.
We got several crash courses in Maya and in one month I had learnt more than the whole year in the post gymnasial course.
During the studying in Maya we studied alot of game design, and I mean alot! We studied the different genres, how to create quick ideas, the work flow of different companies and so on.
One gets pretty humble towards game developers after knowing the background to many headaches in games. Of course one get more critical and demanding also.

The thing with this school is that we practice alot under pressure. As our teacher says; "We throw you into the water without a life jacket, forcing you to learn how to swim". This type of schooling gives running stomachs but it works incredibly good!

At writing moment I am sitting at my desk managing a live gamedesign project. Our project is called Sky Champs and are five weeks into development of eight weeks total. If you wish to read more about our school and our games just log onto the website I have under "About me".
I will keep this updated regularly for my own sanity and for your pleasure.
