@SambaLele What doesn't make sense is Gamespot management approving and launching the review, then firing Jeff because of it. Either the whole thing was unrelated to the review or someone made a very stupid decision. The latter seems more likely to me.
@SambaLele @PlzDieNow I realize that I expressed myself poorly. What I meant to say was that if Gamespot design their reviews based on which publishers they profit from, then the review would have never been released in the first place.
@SambaLele Well this was mostly from memory, but here's one I just googled up: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/exclusive-gertsmann-speaks-about-kandl-review-future/
@SambaLele @Vojtass Jeff made a number of interviews following his departure from Gamespot. That is, when he was no longer part of the staff. Nothing about what he said suggests that Gamespot is typically influenced by publishers. On the contrary, it was a very surprising and isolated event.
And the whole thing with Jeff is hardly an argument for paid reviews. That was an isolated incident where management made a bad call when placed under pressure. If anything, it shows that the reviewers are indeed not affected by the publishers at all.
@euphoric666 Yes, that's my scariest moment too! There's also another moment in the same game where you follow a necromorph through a hallway. After turning a couple of corners you hear a thud behind you and there's another necromorph there. By the time you've killed it and turn back around, the first necromorph is right up in your face. Fuckin panic at the disco.
When the previous design was unveiled it was a step up from the old one, but this is a big leap in comparison. Everything looks really slick and logical. It makes me want to use the community features again (once the site stops lagging of course, but that's just normal with the extra activity I suppose)! :)
