I refuse to believe anything other than the North was completely innocent and noble in their attempts to free the slaves from the tyranny and greed of the south.

I can't tell if you're being serious :P

Well, we won so don't we get to say what happened? :P

Seriously though it was a pretty good read. I was aware that the war was more about state rights vs. federal authority than slavery, but I was unaware as to how a lot of misinterpretation (such as the justice in the dredd scott case) and demonizing occurred to paint people of opposing views as bad people. It could maybe all have been avoided if both sides tried understanding and listening instead of trying to tear the other side down. This particularly applies to the North it seems.

Just reading about it kind of reminds me of a lot of the stuff that is going on today with the feds and the states clashing about what the Feds can impose on the states and even with individuals who claim the feds are imposing on their individuality (like the tea party movement), with the divide seemingly increasing between liberals and conservatives, it makes me wonder where it could all lead to.

Too many people think the job of the criminal justice system is to punish people. Hence why the justice system fails so badly at deterringcrime.

Let's look at this logically. He hasn't hurt anybody in 30 years, and he's a functional contributing member of society. The point of prison is to remove those that cannot legally function in society and rehabilitate them. It's suppose to be an alternative to punishment. Putting him in prison isn't going to do anything except fulfill some simple idea that moral justice can only be obtained through behavior conditioning.

If he would have worked out an acceptable solution for his crimes 30 yrs ago I would agree with you. Instead he fled the country and became a fugitive...Just because you can run from justice for 30 years does not mean that it should or will go away.

No, I have never experienced a movie taste change like that. In fact, I still watch Fievel Goes West regularly. However I will say I have never stayed awake through a whole star wars movie.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="Plzhelpmelearn"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Nah...she already decided. He's just not accepting...

Well, she sent him an e-mail saying they should end it "before this gets worse" (i think from my memory anyway). This may mean she is just afraid of getting involved because of the ping pong nature of their relationship thus far. If he took a step to show that he is seriously interested in her it may sway her opinion.

They don't have a relationship. They never did according to the OP. Perhaps she's nicely telling him to leave her alone?

Well, they have had some sort of relationship, though obviously not an explicitly romantic one. It seems to me that they both at least had interest at some point (otherwise I don't understand why they would talk on skype consistently and such considering they have never talked "in the real world") I think you are probably right, but I also think the easiest way to bring a resolution to the matter would be to just get a hold of her and point blank lay the feelings out there and let her either accept or reject them.

I have no problem with adult stem cell research. I do have a problem with the fetal variety though.

Animatronic64
Why is it okay to throw away fetuses but not okay to do stem cell research on them? I really don't get this logic.

I never said it was okay to throw away fetuses

I think he is a pretty clever guy. I don't think he deserves to be rich or famous more than anyone else though.
