Hey guys,
Who recently watched either the VGA's or the IGA's? I see a problem in the way we run these awards. My biggest concern, is Halo 4. At the VGA's, Halo 4 was the second most nominated game, falling behind Journey. Yet, the only award it won which was really certain was Best Graphics (anyone in their right mind would definitely give Microsoft's premiere shooter Best Xbox 360 game). But I find the lack of it being nominated for Game of the Year disturbing. For starters, if we took say the top 25 gaming websites on the Internet, and averaged their scores for the games this year, either Halo 4 or Mass Effect 3 would be sitting at the top spot. And judging by the amount of hate ME3 got, Halo would probably sit up there. So why was it not even nominated for GOTY?
Another problem I saw was Borderlands 2 winning Best Multiplayer, whereas in the IGA's, the competitive gamers own awards, Halo 4 took GOTY and Best Competitive Multiplayer, with ME3 winning Best Co-Op Multiplayer. To me, it seems that the VGA's have a bias towards the Xbox side of things, especially considering most non-fan based awards go to the other side.
What I cannot understand is why there is this discrepancy between what the gamers, the consumers think, and what the officials think, and what the critics think. If the VGA's are really in the fans' hands, then why is there so much difference between it and other gaming awards?
