Considering Sony has been losing billions a quarter for multiple years now, going the Xbox Live route of bascially required subscription, which is a proven money maker, is probably very, very appealing to them.
Let's change this to. How companies treating games like inviolatable works of art, and worrying to much about "growing their medium" negatively effects CUSTOMER experience in their desire to PLAY and ENJOY their GAMING experience...
He has a solid point. A game without co-op (shooter, adventure, etc) has to be really really good before I'll acutally buy it, as opposed to picking it up used down the road.
