*I don't do blogs much, as any Tom, Dick and Hariette can do them, but all this hoopla over Tekken 6 being one of the best fighting games ever has left a bitter film atop my taste buds.
It's not horrible. But, it's not earth-shattering either.
Maybe in my older age I'm not liking this trail-blazing format for a game franchise I've appreciated throughout most of my university and career days.
Of course I'm referencing Tekken 6. I could be the only person out there who is unimpressed by the new layout. It could be my pragmatism, but when I first slide the blue ray into my PS3 I grew tired of all the cinematic cut scenes and subsequent loading screens during the Scenario mode.
I just wanted to play the game. Do you the fighting thing. These new bells and whistle completely negate the whole point. Tekken 6 is a fighting game, not some run through the jungle crusade where you fight a la Double Dragon.
I understand the approach, but I just wanted to scrap it out like earlier versions Tekken 3 and 4. Perhaps I am being too obstinate, but frankly, I didn't care for the kitschy extras. And now the extras are becoming the main thrust.
In all honesty, Soul Calibur has now surpassed Tekken as my favourite fighting game series.
There, I said it. I'm not impressed by the game. Though it is tolerable.
