Most of my friends are PC gamers, our rigs range from low end to high end but we all prefer PC gaming over consoles.
For GTA4, Racing and sports games I purchased an xbox360 and a 42" 1080p Tv. I have played all the biggest xbox games and heres what i think.
Halo 3: Didnt like im, a mediocre FPS at best
GEOW: I could see potential but it just didnt gel with me, repetetive and boring
Forza2: Great game, im still playing it
GTA4: Love it, it doesnt deserve the scores it got though, no way. Everything in the distance is blurred, something you dont see on pc
Fight Night R 3 and FIFA 08: Great experience with friends, you cant replicate this on a PC
I think that a real gamer needs a console, preferebly a ps3 because that makes for a better PC/console combo and a high end PC. This combo allows for a wide variety of gameplay aswell as having the cuttign edge awesomness which is the PC. I strongly reccomend buying a PC.
Anyway, the reason consoles are not an option for me is Xbox live. Im sure PSN would be the same. Living in Australia XBL is riddled with Lag, absolutleey crippled to the point of not being able to play. Im sure this happesn for alot of people living in countries away from the American hosts.
"HAH lol dont blame XBL when you live Downunder Lol!" I have actually heard this before. Well PC always turns up a variety of servers with GREAT ping and no lag whatsoever. Cod4, CSS and other shooters are all a joy to play with the great servers, awesome graphics and a Mouse and keyboard.
P.S WOW runs like crap due to the servers being far away.
