I would also like to remind people that there are a few games that warrant the ownership of a console:
Whilst they do exist racing games on the PC suck, as do sports games.
GTA VC and SC DA were a pain in the ass to control on PC and actually performed better on consoles due to ludicrously high system requirements.
Good fighting games only exist on consoles.
lol, you spend 2000 bucks on a pc, and 700 on the 360 and then you say its a misconception that pc's are more expensive lol
JPOBS
lol i also said lol that i have to lol buy a $2000 lol HDTV lol
Just to make it look passable.
Like alot of posters on this forum my childhood gaming needs were fufilled by N64. I loved this console and alot of time was spent finishing games like Banjo kazooie and perfect dark 64.
When the Xbox came out i had to have one, After about 6 months however the desire to play my xbox was wearing thin, with only a few games worth playing the xbox mostly gathered dust.
From here I experienced PC gaming at a Lan, PC Gaming instantly became my favourate platform, the graphics gameplay and controls were far above the PS2 and Xbox.
After my grandparents bought me a computer in 2003 i slowly upgraded it into the PC gaming beast i have today. Quad core, 4 gigs of ram, 8800gt, 5.1 logitech surround sound, samsung 22 inch monitor and a sweet chair. I was never bored at home like i was when i had my xbox, games like WOW and CSS just didnt get old. It still seems like PC games are fun for MUCH MUCH longer then there console counterparts.
After i moved in with my GF (who is also a PC gamer) i saved a bit of money and purchased an xbox 360, hoping to relive the console experience and so i have something to do while she plays CSS or WOW.
I only purchased a 360 because all my friends have them, after alot of trouble with purchasing a hard drive and swapping my wired controller for a wireless one i borrowed about 20 top games from all my friends and sat down infront of my large SDTV.
I was immediatley reminded why I became a PC gamer....... The games looked rubbish on my standard def set, i couldnt even read the text in most games. Gears of war and Halo 3 just didnt interest me what so ever.
Gears of war was boring and cliched, i have no idea why you guys harp on about it. I have not touched in since, the characters literally piss me off and the gameplay is repetetive.
Halo 3 was a bit better, the campaign is not compelling but the mulitiplayer offers some fun with system link only because we can talk trash and drink ect. Xbox live for Halo 3 was complete crap, lag ridden and filled with pre pubescent boys. My biggest complaint is that instead of fighting ppl i was fighting the thumbsticks while watching my oppenents also fight the thumbsticks, seeing them wheel around at a snails pace as i sink needles into thier backs.
The graphics are also a hell of a lot better on PC, I played cod 4 on both and the PC version looks more crisp not to mention u play with a mouse.
Xbox 360 does have some advantages however, i can relax on my couch and chill out to Forza 2 (The ONLY game i play on 360, probly due to the lack of good racing games on pc) It is much more relaxing then PC.
Having friends over is also fun because they can bring a 360 and we can system link.
Pretty much the only game im looking foward to is GTA4 but at $120 her in australia im gonna struggle to afford it.
A HUGE misconception is that PCs are more expensive, my PC setup with it's epic monitor ect is only about $2000 and the games are more fun for longer. after i spent about $700 on my Xbox 360 with all the accesories and just 1 game (forza 2) i realised i need to purchase a $2000 HDTV which i will do this week as i cry about credit card debt.
In conclusion my experiences are that the PC is a MUCH better platform and is much better value when u take into account the other things a PC can do such as browse these forums.
If you are really poor and already have a HDTV then i can see y some ppl would prefer a 360 but dont expect to be able to afford many games. The only reason i havnt sold my 360 is so i can play certain games that are rubbish on computer such as splinter cell, racing and fighting games and 3rd person adventure games such as GTA. (SC double agent is rubbish and so is DOA, im looking forward to the next SC and street fighter 4)
I have a fairly good PC setup for a high school student living away from home. My GF and I share a fairly good PC with a nice 22 inch monitor and some good speakers. A few days ago I decided i missed my old xbox and went to EB and got myself an X360 with a few games ( I borrow most of the games from my friends. Here are my impressions:
* Games look terrible on Standerd def tv......Now I could get a nice big HDTV for the price i spent on my entire computer setup but i would be in debt for years. Do you think i should invest in one?
* Console gaming is much more relaxing, even on the SDTV. I sat there and completly tuned out in my big comfy chair infront of Forza 2. I do have a comfy computer chair but its no where near this comfortable
* Console gaming is quite expensive too, after adding in the extra contollers, the expensive games and maybe even a HDTV it adds up to much more then that of a good PC setup.
*Online gaming is better on PC........ More options, more customisation, more servers, less children
*PC gaming is more immersive due to being close to the screen and better graphics ( Dont kid yourselves, Games on the X360 have framerate problems and some ugly textures,
These are all my opinion...ur mileage may vary.
Ok lets address some issues brought up:
- I do not download programs form limewire, only media files (Music and ....erm.... movies...)so I do not get spyware this way
- I regularly run an up to date spyware and antivirus
- As you can see from the CC cleaner shortcut i like to keep my registry and computer free and clean.
- I would consider a Q6600, 8800gt and 2GB of ram high end....if its not high end, what else would it be? because it sure as hell isnt mid range.
- The 8800gt was described by the media as "THe perfect video card for crysis" and the box of the 8800gt has a screenshot of crysis/
- The 8800gt is the 512mb edition, not overclocked as this voids warranty ect.
