I just started playing FFIV for DS today, and like it was said previously there are blue circles in dungeons that you can save/camp in.
The quicksave option is really nice too, instantly saves your position, but if you hit New Game, or Load in the main menu next time you start up, then it will erase your quicksave data, which is the "Continue" option.
FFIV was/is my favorite Final Fantasy, probably because of Cecil, and I have to say that the DS version only improves. The graphics, gameplay, and voice acting really add a lot.
Also, they have a few features for combat, like how quickly is progresses, weather or not it's active or waiting, and there is even an option for Auto Combat. Auto makes your party do abilities that you have assigned automatically, so if you're running through a low area and don't really want to pay attention, all you have to do it hit X in combat.
Also, if your Leader gets switched up and you're wondering how to fix it, just hit Y.
P.S.- I never finished FFIII for DS, and I can't pick it up because I also have no idea WTF to do, FFIV does have a journal in it though. A small rabbit in a red cloak will keep track of it, and can also change your name and tell you about previous beasts.
