Special Treat for the Month.

Ok , I said that I would try to keep you in touch on what is around the corner. So Here it is:

Windows runs animations for certain events , this can cause the PC to slow down.

Right-Click on the desktop, select properties , go to the appearance tab, click effects and clear any tick boxes to disable, it is that simple.

Every application you install will add a bunch of font's along with the basic program. If install a bunch of programs , your font list will be very long , get rid of those you don't need can speed things up, and when Windows loads, they will not t be loaded at the start up time.

Left-click on start, then go to control panel, then go to font's and delete the font's not used, that is it.

7. Keep Windows up to date.

8. Clear out Unnecessary Disk Space with Disk Cleaner:

A+ Certification : The Basics of the Game

Ok,

This is what it is all about, what you need to know to get in the field of computers.

I know you are saying to your self, I don't need to know how a computer works to get in to the field of computers. Wrong, The filed of today is growing so fast that you need to have at lest the basics down before you tackle the industry of today.

I started when the computer field was a box and nothing else, so that tells you how old I am, I was building conputers at age 8.

There are two test involved in the A+ Certification Exams, Exams 220-221 and Exam 220-222 ,these are a two part exam process and you must take them in sequence.

These skills are what the Exams cover : Exam 1 : Core Hardware Examination

1. Installing, configuration and upgrading

2. Diagnosing and troubleshooting

3. Safety and Preventive Maintenance

4. Motherboards / Processor / Memory

5. Printers

6. Portable systems

7. Basic Networking

8. Customer Saisfaction

Exam 2: Operating Systems Exam:

1. Function , Structure, Operation, and File Management

2. Memory Management

3. Installation, Configuration, and Upgrading

4. Troubleshooting

5. Networks

Note : As I have always, said, these exams are expensive $ 250.00 and UP, so if you think that you are not ready for this step in the long way up the road, not do it, also you have to pass both test in-order to be A+ Certified.

The exams are given by CompTIA, and that means that you can purchase it form places like VUE, (a testing site and schedule it at your local tester , all test are on line, at the testing center and are time limit test, so don't waste time on the questions, if you don't know the answers move on to the next one.

There are a lot of books that cover the A+ Certification , just go to the local book store and look at the computer section and find the books you want to have and get them , then start working on the test preparation.

So that is the basics of the A+ Certification , if you need specific question answered , e-mail me and I will answer them for you.

Note: You can also get books like "How to build a PC, or Pc for Dummies (don't knock them till you try them), and other books that will show the basics of computers, if you wish to start there first.

Ok , this raps it up for this topic.

See you future Operators and Administrators later and remember always help, (the Advance Students) the people that don't understand how a computer works , you were there once to.

End LOG::)

Security UPDATE: Warrning New Ways for SPYWARE:ADWARE:MAILWARE:to Enter Computer

Hello Form the Dark Side  (Joke)

Ok, now I got your attention. I said that I would not be back for 2 WKs but I found out some thing I wish to pass on as vital information. I found a security risk that causes a lot of damage . I was doing a research paper for a class project , and got this nasty bug by clicking on a link to a site. The folks that make Adware: Mailware : Spyware have added a new twist to the big problem. This bug will cause a lot of damage and almost crashes the system.

Note: I am about to move some of you into the fast lane of WINDOWS and for this I do apologise.

This Bug enters into all Transport Layer, Internet Layer , and Application Layer by Windows WINSOCK, It alters all commands and system registry entries, and causes a lot of damage to other applications, and adds a tool bar that will not delete. The bug also looks to see if you are hooked to a server and if you are then it goes to work on it to, also it uses port 80 to enter the system (MAIN port for windows). It enters through the simple TCP/IP protocols and Active X controls (Real player uses this, this is one application of a hole lot ). The only way to get rid of this is to :

1) Delete all Adware, Mailware, Spyware entries on the computer

2) Run a complete system Virus scan, Adware, Mailware scan and remove any and all files , links , tools bars and any other programs that where installed, by command line entries.

3) Reload any and all applications that use these software protocols

4) Reload Winsocks

1) Delete old Winsocks

2) Install a New Winsocks setup

Note: Norton's and Mcafee's software did not find this Bug, I found it by Microsoft's Beta version of Spyware, and only then did the other application find them after Microsoft , found them, Quarantined them, and deleted them.(Beta version found 97% of the bug)

So what does this mean, watch out if you are doing any searches on your computer at home and if you think that you have a problem like this , (get help fast for the new comer's to the field ) for the old timers or the advanced students, use a second firewall link to do all of your work and keep the main line system in protection (like I did ). The companies out there are making it harder to get rid of this kind of software and they don't care about anyone but them selves, and the new comers to the computer world (people that have never had a computer) will have trouble getting rid of this and that means they are going to need people like you for your help.

Note: The Advance Students or Operators:

This took 2 HRS to clean this up and it caused a lot of damage that had to be repaired little by little , good thing this link is not on the main link and out of reach of thing's like this (and for good reason), and if you have clients , warn them and make sure that they will be protected from this Nasty Bug.

If you need any more information, please use my web address to contact me and I wil see if I can help you any way I can.

Well, I need to get back to my studying, I have one more major test on Monday and that will be it for the testing for a little while.

Good luck to all of you future Programmers and Operators, and all ways remember to help any one that you can, "if you are a advance user", you where there once too.

Time Out: 2:25 PM central time.
