Not sure how this makes the news? Who cares what grown adults decide to do?Rattlesnake_8

It's not the news... It's one of those "Dear Abby" letters where people ask for advice.

and I realize it's on yahoo news, but the author of the article is Abby.

First off i live in Louisiana and Louisiana is ranked one of the lowest educaton-wise in the country(USA has terrible education too start with)

Im 16 years old and vietnamese and im a sophomore in Highshcool.  I got A's in all of my math classes i have tooken so far(pre-Alg, Alg1, Geometry)

I want to go to college for computer software engineering and that requires a lot of Math.

Problem is, is that my Highschool only goes up to Advanced Math-Pre cal when you are a senior<<< ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!

This is the track i am on right now:

9th-Alg1(got an A in the class and excellent on the End of course Test)

10th-Geometry(currenlty taking this class and is wayy too easy)

11th-AlgII

12th-Advanced math-pre cal.

^^So0o as you can see my school sucks monkey balls!  BUT WAIT- Louisiana has something called Louisiana Virtual School(link bellow)

http://www.louisianavirtualschool.net/

And they offer Pre-cal(advanced math) and Calculus!  I want to talk to my school Counselor and see if i can switch my track to this by using
Louisiana Virtual school:

10th-Finish taking Geometry(with an A)

11th- first semester i take Alg II and second semester i take Pre-cal(aka advanced math) by my school or LVS.

12- Finally take Calculus using the LVS

So as you can see i have gotton all A's in my math classes so far and done well on the tests and if i continue to get A's and do good on my tests all the way up to pre-cal, should i have a problem with taking Calculus before going to college?

Also is MY way of completing Highschool better than my current track im in? Fell free to tell me anything else!

biggerdjam

I'm taking IB Calculus as a senior and I took Geometry my freshman year (completed Algebra I in 8th grade), so I was on track to take Calculus (which I can get college credit for if I pass the AP exams). This is the way that most schools work as far as I know. It's not unheard of for people to have taken Algebra and even geometry in middle school.

Are you sure that your school does not offer Calculus? I find that hard to believe. If it's possible I think that you should double up on Algebra II and Pre-Calc your junior year, and then take Calculus your senior year. It'll be hard because algebra II provides a foundation for pre-calc, but if you're willing to put some time in you should be fine.

Also, grades are arbitrary. They won't have an effect on whether or not you get college credit unless your school is distinguished enough that colleges respect it. If your school is as you say one of the lowest quality in the US, you are not getting college credit unless you pass the AP or IB exams (whichever your school offers).

In our most recent survey, Liberals in general were 64% more likely to report major depression, 320% more likely to report bipolar disorder, 50% more likely to report mild depression, and 113% more likely to report Seasonal Affective Disorder.

They were also more likely to use a variety of anti-anxiety and depressive drugs, such as SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)--86% more likely, and Anti-anxiety drugs--159% more likely. SNRIs (Selective Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors ) and Tricyclics were also used at a higher rate, but not in significant numbers for either Liberals or Conservatives.

One interesting note, Liberals and Conservatives reported a very high satisfaction rate with the anti-anxiety drugs. SNRIs were also well received, though not as well as the anti-anxiety drug group. SSRIs had mixed reviews, and tricyclics were generally disliked.

On the graph below, we see the major depression breakdown for the Very Conservative (VC), Conservative (C), Liberal (L), and Very Liberal (VL) cohorts.

majdep.gif

The above graph shows a stong elevation in the Very Liberals, with the females reporting very high rates of major depression. The Very Liberal males are also the highest on the male scale.

Below, we see the rates of bipolar depression among our political cohorts. Again, we see elevations in the Very Liberals and Liberals, especially the females. Out of the 50 Very Conservative females that responded to our survey, none reported bipolar depression.

Liberals are also elevated in both genders for the most common form of depression---mild depression (see below).

And finally, on the graph below, Liberals of both genders show an elevation in Seasonal Affective Disorder.

This elevated tendency for depressive and anxious disorders is compelling evidence of fundamental differences in the neurophysiological make-up of Liberals and Conservatives. Elevated depression and anxiety rates provide further evidence of a right hemispheric bias in the average Liberal. There is substantial evidence that the right hemisphere is more strongly linked with depressive and anxious disorders than the left.

The stronger the Liberal belief, the greater the probability of depression and anxiety. Conversely, the stronger the Conservative belief, the lower the probability of anxious disorders. However, depressive disorders do not follow this trend in the males, as the Very Conservatives were slightly more likely to have a depressive disorder than the regular Conservatives, but still much less than the average Liberal.Laihendi

The fact that they are 320% more likely to be bi-polar is shocking.

Study shows that Laihendi is crazy. Source

For example I really look up to people who can just say it as it is, no messing around./p>Wolfetan

Be careful what you wish for, I learned the hard way. People do not like the truth, that is why some people hate me, a lot.

No one likes the complete truth. No one is perfect, so if we heard the truth every day we would have very low self esteems. I have a feeling that you "telling the truth" was more along the lines of being an ass than trying to be honest.

Hi guys. So let me tell you a story:

I'm a sob, no really I am. Whenever I get lied or crossed over I always get my revenge. There's this 'sex buddy' I had who lied to me and start using another guy and chances are they got pregnant. However, she trusted me to keep that secret... big mistake. I created an anonymous facebook account and I am about to post on my school facebook that she is pregnant of that guy. Are there any chances of me being discovered?

Inb4 childish

Ricardomz

Uh oh, she better watch out!

Also, inb4 does not nullify whatever you put after it. You are childish and the fact that you recognize that makes you even more of an idiot. Thank god she got pregnant off of some other guy and not you. You should not be allowed to father any children.

For me:

  • Kids who want to be older than they really are and therefore they start to go out at night, smoking and drinking at age of 14.
  • Guys who think they're really cool because they got laid with 40 girls
  • People who think they're popular even though nobody gives a sh*t about them
  • Tumblr wannabes
  • Slutty girls and buffed up guys that have zero brains

Ricardomz

I'm annoyed by people that criticize people like this. Those kids may be going out and doing drugs and having sex right now, but it's not like you're doing anything productive at the moment.

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"] No such thing as "finite natural resources"Blood-Scribe
Yes, actually there is. It's simply any natural resource that can't be replenished quickly enough to offset the rate at which it is consumed. Examples of this would be fossil fuels that take millions of years to form, or metal ores like uranium.

Fossil fuels aren't necessary. When we harness renewable energy sources like solar power and wind we won't need them. If we ever get a mastery of fusion we'll have more energy than we will ever need. As for metal ores, everything can be recycled, and it's not like the metal is going anywhere. Plus, I could see us harvesting the resources of other planets in the future, although I believe that Mars is devoid of natural resources so it would most likely be asteroids that would be mined. If we're getting even more hopeful for the future, we could just make artificial metals. All metals are made of the same particles, just in different amounts. The only finite resource that we have is space, but we have a lot so it would take a lot of people to take that all up.

I don't know if it counts as a religion, but Buddhism. It seems to be the most tolerant of the religions, and plus I like how you don't get to heaven for just being faithful, you get there through being morally good and through helping others, and even then it takes a few lives to get there.

No, we had a little lesson in 5th grade where the boys and girls were separated and we watched some fun videos. I knew the gist of everything by then though.SoNin360

Lol the same thing happened at my school. And of course we all shared what the videos were about with each other...

My parents never gave me the talk. I learned about it on my own, probably in 4th grade.

...but it's not okay to just be intolerant?

nekrothing

You're completely correct. It is ok to be intolerant of people who are intolerant. I'm bigoted against bigots.
