Because most (if not all) games are made at the 720p resolution anyways. Setting the console to run games made natively at the 720p resolution to 1080 merely resizes the pixels and whatnot, process it and make them larger. You don't want that, because that causes the pixels to be more blurry, less sharp etc etc. so take your PS3 fanboyism elsewhere tfre747 or at least look up the hard facts first.
