Well, you have narrowed it down to the same 3 that I did and in the end I bought them all (after finishing one etc). In my opinion, I thought Star Ocean was the best. The story is good, there is humor, the battles are really fun (as always in this series) and it is a very beautiful game visually! Some of the dialog can be a bit heavy, but staying with it definitely offeres the full reward of how in did! Don't know how much you know about the fighting style in it so i wont spoil much, but it was very fun, so personally I would play this second :D ................however, I am still currently playing IU so can not comment on it too much myself, apart from up to now I am really enjoying it. The combat is very fluent and a strong sense of teamwork is definitely present. Now this may overtake the other 2 once I have finished it, but until then I can not judge.......But the other two are safe buys, especially as you can get them really cheap nowdays! Another GREAT RPG is Lost Odyssey.......If you like the old FF series, not the new f****d up battles and lame story ones, then this is definitely for you! Probably one of my favourites! lol, 40 hours is a pretty good length for any adventure game. Especially a FPS that has really smooth controls and graphics. I'm not saying it's terrible, however. . . .Considering I bashed out about 100+ on FC2, and don't forget those 40 on FC3 include quite a few hours of poker and other mini games.......I'd say the story missions alone would amount to about 6 - 8hrs?? Which, if the multiplayer was good, wouldn't matter. But imo I think this is only worth buying for campaign but I would not shell out over £15 for it ($25? - Dunno where anybody is from)

I'd prefer some large production old-school, turn based RPG's as well to make a return somehow. But there is room for both, especially since there is still tremendous potential for hybrid RPG's.
Totally agree! Turn based can be VERY fun games.....I say keep exploring. No problem with variety, if anything you should embrace it, not reject it

I'm hesitant to even get the demo. Ever since 2 I have been disappointed tbh....maybe this could be the way back towards form? I'll wait to hear a few more reviews before I decide to try it or not. My time is precious :p
Oh hell yes.....Breath of Fire games were amazing! Especially #3.....Peko - a playable character that was AN ONION hahahaha. And yeah, obviously Fallout 3 is another I forgot to mention! I'm thinking about picking up Tales of Vesperia, can get it fairly cheap now
