@esqueejy: to be fair, before he went on his quest to star in as many dumb action movies as possible he was in some really good dialogue-heavy movies, like Snatch.
@dzimm: True. People know influenza though, it's not this new unknown thing. And while there is no cure for the flu either, there is at least medication to dampen its effects. Therefore i think it's understandable that the organizers of such big events as e3 are cautious. Hey i'm still going to a concert tomorrow (SPIRITBOX!!!), i'm not too worried about my personal health, but as i said the cautious reactions are understandable.
@dzimm: this is not panic, simply common sense. what you are saying about the virus' lethality is mostly correct, but there are people with those medical conditions, for who the infection with the virus could be lethal. also you don't want to infect your parents (or depending on your age your grandparents), right?
there's no need for panic. if you are under 40 years old and have no medical conditions (such as troublesome breathing) the death rate is near 0%. that being said, no one wants to create any unnecessary risks. also mind that we don't have a vaccine yet AND there's always the possibility of the virus mutating further in a healthy host.
panic is robbing your doctor of masks and disinfectant. cancelling e3 is not panic in my book.
@dragoonmike: because people all around the world use the words "don't panic!" which psychologically and historically always gets the reverse result in actually inciting panic in people. it's quite easy to understand actually. we humans have difficulties processing negative words like "no" or "don't". add on top of that, that the word "panic" is a really strong word, because at the very least it will make people think "well is there a reason (not) to panic?".
Ha, i wanted to praise the elegance of clickbait in the title (meaning it looks very much like clickbait to begin with, but still sounds interesting enough so i had to click on it anyway, which doesn't happen often). Turns out it's an actual article with content. Can't watch the video (no sound), but it sounds actually interesting.
@saikowaifu2003: sure, if things keep developing as they are right now it'll be cancelled anyway. but to cancel it now would be too premature. it's still a few months away and maybe a vaccine will be developed sooner rather than later.
E3 is a sort of choke point for revealing a lot of new trailers, demos and announcements all at once. it is just really convenient and yeah, that is cool to have, but we are getting those infos anyway via the youtubes of this world. so i'm not too worried about e3 slowly dying. i understand that for the attending companies a lot of preparation and money went into it, so of course at some point you have to ask yourself wether it's still worth it.
from a consumer pov, i live relatively close to Cologne, but i've never been to gamescom, cause it seems much more convenient to only watch what really interests you online and not spending hours standing in lines. i don't want to watch a trailer to a new pokemon or the annual call of duty.
on the plus side, some companies put a lot of effort into their presentations, which where fun to watch. but i don't watch full press conferences, i skip to the parts that interest me.
ah man, i never got to play Alan Wake but i always wanted to. the game looks awesome, i believe it's right up my alley. i'm a huge fan of RE and horror games in general.
not having played the original i can't help but wonder: doesn't that mean the end of the game is missing? seeing that no one in the comment section freaks out about this, i probably got it wrong.
so that Midgar place is like 90% of the game and they only scrapped the final boss area or what?
