[QUOTE="SteveTabernacle"][QUOTE="CraigyM83"]Regardless of what anyone thinks it is, it's Final Fantasy made by Square Enix how they wanted it to be. I'm suprised people are still wallowing in the past.TheEldestGod
I agree. I'm very much like Yahtzee and Jim Sterling on this subject. Developers should ignore fans. Fans are chains that hold games back by forcing them to adhere to rigid formula. Make the game you want to make to fit your vision, and just go with it. All this talk of this not being a "true" Final Fantasy is without any merit at all. If SE says this is a Final Fantasy game, that's what it is. No amount of stubborn denial will change that. To those who don't like the changes you have a simple option here, cash in your chips and leave the Final Fantasy table. Because it's obvious the series has simply left some of you behind. Final Fantasy is a big name in a shrinking increasingly niche genre.
Changes to broaden it's appeal beyond the "fans" are an absolute must. The chains have been broken, and I doubt SE will willingly be chained down again. You stay classy, Squeenix.
Good lordy you people just don't get it. Sure its Final Fantasy in the literal sense. How could anyone deny that?? Its just not FF to some of us who were used to it the way it was, liked it that way, and expected it to stay that way. Final Fantasy has changed. Oh well. All good things come to an end. I'm enjoying the game, but I can easily tell you its not my favorite. So far its sitting at about 4th place, though, so thats not too bad. Square Enix isn't listening to fans anymore, so don't worry about that. They, like everyone else, are trying to reach a much broader market and know that most people don't like JRPGs. So, guess what... They didn't make one. Exacly. In a nutshell, they ditched their faithfull fans in order to make more money, making a game that SHOULD appeal to a broader audience...the problem is, in order to reach a broader audience, you have to make a game simple (which speaks a lot for the gamer population ans/or the population in general... IQ anyone?). And a simple FF is like Blizzard removing levels from WoW because they suddenly feel they make things too complicated
I have yet to see a sigle person who liked the FF 3-12 say they are completely happy with the new game. And this is not surprising, as to us this game feels like it was made for little kids. Sorry, but it's true. And as good as the game's story and graphics are, the shallow and simplistic design decisions really show. I was hoping, praying that FF 13 would NOT end up like Sqaure's last failiure "The last remnant", but instead it turned out even worse in some aspects.
In short, FF is a solid game with a good story and graphics, but nothing more. And as most FF fans can tell you, this is not good enough for a FF game.
So this brings me to my question: With the new RPG-s that came out for the ps3 lately, which one would you recomment for a real jRPG fan? I'm really in need of a solid jRPG which knows it's place. Star ocean or White knight chronicles? Maybe a 3rd one?
