Heavy Rain. A masterpiece of a completely unique gaming experience.

I just finished Heavy Rain last night, and I must say, it is a masterpiece. A unique experience unlike any I have ever had in a game. It's a detective story and an epic suspense thriller, like an incredible suspense thriller film where you get to interact instead of just watch. I was completely blown away by the plot twists and the shock ending. The experience of this game was so intense I played through the entire thing in one sitting because I could not put it down, something I've done with very, very few games in the past. It took about 12 hours to play through, although it could be played in fewer if you utilized fewer interactions although I can't imagine why anyone would want to. That doesn't sound like a lot of gameplay time but I can assure you this game is a better value than most of the other games I've bought, including the 50-150 hour ones, because of the value of the experience. Add to that there is enormous replay value. There are four different endings, and many huge decisions throughout the game that change the story and events in important ways. You could play several times and have a different experience each time. As for value, I'd go so far as to say this one is worth getting a PS3 console for if you don't have one yet (it is a PS3 exclusive). One of the reasons I felt compelled to finish the game in one sitting was I was on the edge of my seat dying to find out what would happen next, gather more clues, and try to solve the mystery in my head. At several points I considered several different people as suspects, and was ultimately shocked by the ending. Another thing epic about this game is that I have never been so emotionally invested in characters in a game, movie, or book before. The interactive element multiplies your investment as opposed to other media, and this game does an amazing job of "humanizing" these characters for the ultimate emotional impact. Some reviewers will tell you about "slow" points in the beginning - but in the end I understood why they were there. They allowed you to connect with the characters, and developed them in a way that could not happen with non-stop action. Finally I wish to add that unlike most games where the music is window dressing and in the background, the music in Heavy Rain is flawless and builds tension better than any Hollywood movie I've ever seen. This is an absolute must-play that had an impact on me like no other game I have ever played, and although I rarely replay games this is one I expect to repeat multiple times.
