@Wreexx That is silly. That doesn't prove that people are naturally non-violent, it just shows that many people desire violence but don't have the constitution to handle what violence involves or have no connection to why the violence is being committed. You say people fear wars, yet you ignore the fact that people DO wage wars and have so since they stepped foot on this planet.

Even in you attempt to refute the idea, you use an example of suicide, which is violence against oneself, so you seem to prove yourself wrong.

1. Humans are omnivores, which means they eat both plants and meat. To eat meat, you have to commit violence on animals to kill them and then eat their meat.

2. Common sense shows that people possess the natural emotion of anger and hate, which are the roots of violence. When one possesses too much of one or the other, most likely both, they act out in some violent way, whether direct or indirect.

3. If you have ever been around little children, you will see many of them act out in violence, either when they want something, by throwing a tantrum or trying to take another child's toy, or they are just "horsing around," by wrestling with siblings or friends. I have two children, so I have first hand witness of this phenomenon.

4. Throughout all of history, many of man's past-times have involved violence as a core element, from gladitorial events, to football games.

5. Men are naturally greedy and want what others have, as evidenced by children and also by how people act when there are no laws or repercussions for their actions -- like during riots or on the internet through pirating digital goods. People like committing violence when there are no repercussions.

That's not to say that men are completely violent, but to ignore or deny something that is part of human nature is an attempt in self-delusion. I suggest you read Plato's "The Republic," with a focus on Book II and the myth of The Ring of Gyges (which The Lord of Ring's Ring of Power was based on) and Thomas Hobbes' "The Leviathan," or just pay attention to your own human nature.

@StarkJJ Because they want their fighting game to be taken seriously by serious fighting game players, not casual players.

@m4a5 True. Well, so was Street Fighter II to an extent, by introducing tight controls, combos, etc. etc., but no one seems to stress out when a new King of the Fighters comes out or a Blaz Blue or any other heavily inspired Street Fighter-like game; it's how a genre grows.

The only problem with the brawl genre is that there haven't been any other good games in that genre, besides SSB, which I don't necessarily see as a benefit to a popular game style. If anything, we should all root for All-Stars to be good and hopefully inspire more companies to give it a shot at making similar games and try to innovate and push to genre to new levels.

@m4a5 The point is, there similar style games that came out before SSB. In fact, even some of the guys that worked on The Outfoxies worked on the first SSB, so it is a bit more than inspiration.

@shahirbear Well, to counter that point, one could say that digital purchases lead to more impulse buying since, if you are in the urge to buy something, you can do so immediately from your home rather than having to travel elsewhere and think about whether you really want to buy the item or not. The less time you have to think to buy something is good for a seller.

Also, with digital items, when you start buying them, sometimes you lose track of how much you have spent, which is also good for a seller. Speaking for myself, I know sometimes when I buy MP3's individually, I can lose track of how much I have actually spent by the end.

Finally, digital retailers never close. So, business is always open and if someone has the impulse to buy a game at 2am, they can. Good for sellers.
