Why do people feel the need to compare games? Using comparission can be good to explain how a feature works, or what a certain aspect of the game is like, but why do gamers compare completely opposite games? Recently I was checking out some information on Metro 2033. It looks like a fairly good game so I go to the fourms. Every topic I either entered or looked at the title at least one of the comments had something to do with Fallout 3. What does Fallout have to do with a brand new IP. What does a Action RPG have in common with a shooter? If any game would be compared to Metro it would have to be the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. Those games all have similar themes (nuclear explosions). Even the gameplay sounds similar. I don't understand why games that have nothing in common are compared.
Another common comparission (well it used to be) is the Halo and COD comparrision. How can those two games even be said in the same sentence? A modern, semi-realistic first person shooter and asci-fi, fictional, first person shooter filled with aliens. The gameplay is not even remotely close. In COD, aiming is done down the sights if youwant anyhope of hitting something. In Halo, all you do is spray at the target without any precision aim (except the snipers). Online is completely different and even the community is different. The only thingthose games have in common is the first person shooter part. How can one game be better than the other? They aretwo very different games and should never be compared.
What is next? Will madden start to be compared to Need for Speed?
