Too bad the games look like absolute GARBAGE. I'd be impressed if the machine was released 4 or 5 years ago, but it's 2010. The new Sony handheld, and probably the nintendo one as well, will undoubtedly put the ipad to shame from a technical standpoint. The Ipad wont beable to compete as a gaming platform, as it is something that will continuously be upgrading. A game for the ipad released in a year may not even be playable on the models out now.

Visually, a lot of those games surpass DS in the visual department. O_o I suppose if iPhone games look like GARBAGE, then DS graphics look like SCUM

Looks somewhat good, but the gameplay is **** in 85% of those titles.

lucky_star
Because you've played 85% of those titles? Good one. If they were so crappy, I suppose millions upon millions of people wouldn't be buying them, yet here they are, buying them, and here we have developers citing their successes. Be bitter as you may, you sound like a Sony PSP Fanboy crying over the Nintendo DS. Only this time, it's the new kid on the block.

I see that all the Apple fans has moved on from the Phone Gaming Forum to SW.

-

I fully recognise the IPhone and IPad as devices that you play games on but they have two issues with me.

1: The controls. Without any buttons on the thing the games available for it is really limited.

2: The library. The IPhone has a huge library but the quality games are really few and most of them can't even compare to DS games.

JLF1

I respect your opinion and thank you for it I definitely see the issue with number 1, but again, multi-touch works, just takes getting used to like how the stylus for the DS was mocked by every PSP fan. Number 2 is very subjective. There are people that went BANANAS over Monkey Island and Sam n Max came out of nowhere. Pheonix Wright, GTA China Town Wars, and Assassins Creed 1 and 2 not only are on the iPhone as well, but some of them scored higher for sharper and more fluid graphics. I have yet to see an FPS that looks and PLAYS as good as any of the five best FPS's on the iPhone. Many games in the App Store compare to the DS, so much that many of them were even ported from the DS.

[QUOTE="RetroBoy17"][QUOTE="karasill"]Yeah the iPhone/iTouch do have some pretty good games. However, since they are not dedicated gaming machines the experience is not as good as it should be (yes I'm taking a stab at the controls). I'd take the DS or PSP over iPhone gaming anyday. Also, it's pretty sad that they don't have Flash support (I might have bought the iPad if it did) to open them up to so many more free games online... Wait a minute.... I said free... Apple doesn't like free....Birdy09
That must explain the tens of thousands of free games and assorted other software. In fact, a good heft of the games in the list up there are in fact, free (obviously the more simple looking games) What happened to not liking free? I'd rather take my iTouch/iPhone with me than my DS or PSP. Why? Because I don't have to carry my DS or PSP in my pocket, which don't even fit if I'm wearing normal clothing. iPhone owners even get the benefit of not having to have their phone AND their DS or PSP in their pockets. Just one device to do it all. Aside from getting multiplats? I get my entire video and music collection, youtube, internet and email, and a bunch of other nerdy geeky utilities that increase the usefulness of my gaming device beyond just gaming. I can control my computer from anywhere using sharescreen over WiFi if I even wanted to.

10000 free games and assorted software, everything you can find on Android, only android doesnt have 10 of the same damn app and count that towards the final tally. Iphone apps are incredible overated for the most part, take this from someone who owns one... JB aswell.

Pfft... iPhone apps overrated, heheh.. There are apps that provide functionality that exist on the iPhone that have yet to be seen on Android. There's an app that turns the iPhone into a scanner, uses OCR to convert the scan into an editable PDF, and can fax it right in the same app from the iPhone. There's an app that warns you of nearby police, and even can stream real-time radio frequencies that police and fire stations use in every state and county if you really needed to know what's going on with a nearby incident. There's an app for remote-controlling any laptop, PC or Mac using VNC or RDP Clients. There are SSH client log-ins, a multitude of business and productivity apps. Even then, keep it on the games and guess what? Android has nothing BUT the same flash-quality shovelware trash that everyone misrepresented the iPhone for having nothing but.

[QUOTE="locopatho"][QUOTE="treedoor"]

No one disagrees that the iPhone has games just like no one disagrees you can find free flash games on websites like Newgrounds and such.

And yes, I am hinting at something here.

treedoor

Well at that point we are into arguing what "counts" as a game, which is silly. Then we gotta go into the whole thing of "O Heavy rain isn't a game, it's a movie!" and "Wii Fit isn't a game, it's crap!" and so on. If it's something you can play, it's a game.

That's not what I'm arguing.

The point is is that without buttons you've already put a huge limitation on the potential of how good certain games can be on the iPhone.

Don't knock unless you've tried. I wreak havoc almost too gracefully in Grand Theft Auto and slay hordes of alien soldiers in the FPS Nova on multi-touch controls. Just like the DS took getting used to with the stylus, so too does multi-touch need getting used to. In fact, FPS's are argueably more comfortable to play on the iPhone/iTouch than on the DS, and I speak from experience. (metroid prime hunters) Racing games are as natural as tilting, and I'm actually surprised as hell that the DS didn't have an accelerometer of its own for the likes of super monkey ball and mario kart. (They sure made a plastic wheel for the Wii) RTS's? Home territory on Multi-Touch. Command and Conquer proves it. I'm sure RTS is equally as good on DS though. Can't say the same about PSP. Virtual controls aren't bad. They just need getting used to, much like how Sony Fanboys dissed the DS to all hell at first.

And did you find those flash games that play and look like the three games I listed? Or are you going to dodge that one?

words with friends is so addictive. i know its just scrabble but the multiplayer aspect is great. nearly all my friends play it and i've always got 5-10 games on the go. Jetjetjim if anyone wants a game

Vinegar_Strokes
Tell me about it. It's like Scrabble in a weird MMO format. I love that you play together with your friends at your own pace, regardless of where they are in the world.

[QUOTE="locopatho"]Possibly a 56k warning required :P But yeah totally agreed, don't see why people have such an issue admitting this...treedoor

Sure, find me a free flash game that plays and looks like Grand Theft Auto Chinatown, Assassins Creed and Brothers in Arms. Good luck!

Forgot to mention that GTA Chinatown Wars scored higher on iPhone than on the DS, and cost a whole 20 dollars less to buy. The same goes for a lot of DS ports. Having people download games in an online app store cuts the need for the middleman retail system, making games that much cheaper.

and yes, the majority of these games you can play multiplayer online via WiFi, local bluetooth, or wireless 3G coverage if you have the iPhone.

As you've noticed, some of your dear DS and PSP games are in there, and some exclusives and multiplats from EA, Activision, Capcom, Rockstar, Sega, THQ, and Square-Enix as well.

There are three MMORPG's that are already in its library including Graal Online, Pocket Legends Online and some admittedly obscure title. Dunno if MMO's are common on a mobile gaming device, but they're there on the iPhone.

Apple's iPad seeks to bring the same formula on a much bigger screen with much higher resolution. It's essentially the first 10 inch screen mobile gaming device. I wouldn't count on writing Apple off in the videogame industry just yet.

The majority of these games you can play multiplayer online via WiFi, local bluetooth, or wireless 3G coverage if you have the iPhone. Within the next two weeks, Apple is kick starting its much anticipated 'Xbox-Live' style Game Center, to unify the multiplayer aspect of all these games so devs don't have to code their own multiplayer systems.

As you've noticed, some of your dear DS and PSP games are in there, and some exclusives and multiplats from EA, Activision, Capcom, Rockstar, Sega, THQ, and Square-Enix as well, and at a fraction of their cost due to the fact that all games are downloaded through WiFi, effectively cutting retail distribution costs.

There are three MMORPG's that are already in its library including Graal Online, Pocket Legends Online and some admittedly obscure title. Dunno if MMO's are common on a mobile gaming device, but they're there on the iPhone.

Apple's iPad seeks to bring the same formula on a much bigger screen with much higher resolution and quadruple the horsepower. It's essentially the first 10 inch screen mobile gaming device that also happens to be a computer. I wouldn't count on writing Apple off in the videogame industry just yet.
