The fact of the matter is, the PC is failing, because it lacks a central figure. There's no one behind it pushing for it to be better. Games like Crysis, Stalker and The Witcher are going multiplat, because there's no one stopping them. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, they all build games exclusively for their consoles and make deals to insure that their consoles have things to offer that no other platform has. The PC doesn't have this at all. There's no PC booth or keynote at major gaming confrencess. Microsoft has effectively abandoned pushing the PC anymore. The only thing that holds what devs remain to the platform is sheer theology. Without this central figure, PC gaming won't die (it'll never die), but it will stagnate, and it will lose all major exclusivity.

So unless some company, Apple is doubtfull with the gaming success of the iPhone and iPad, picks up the PC, and says "this is how the PC will become the leader of gaming in years to come," from the center of a confrence room, the PC will only lose more of its power, until even Blizard (with the salivating Kotick behind them) shifts its focus to the console market.
