OK there's too much misinformation going around so here's why the terraria community is angry about this
Before launch of the game the devs made all sorts of promises regarding constant updates after release.
However after a few updates with barely any of what they promised they officially stopped development of the game citing personal reasons and working on a new game.
Nothing was heard from a few months until a few days ago we when the devs stared teasing with a 'big surprise'.
So you can imagine how some people felt when that big surpise turned out to be a console version with 'extra content' that is unlikely to be ported back over to pc (and the pc version is going to not get any patches either)

In summary
Devs: "Hey guys, we've got these patches and bug fixes lined up, and we'll try to get them to you sometime soon"
PC players: "Woohoo, Terraria patches"
-A short time later-
Devs: "Hey guys, we've decided to take a break from making Terraria for a while. Gonna take some time to unwind and recharge my programming and game designing batteries"
PC Players: "But... my patches? Oh well, I'm sure we'll get them when you come back"
-6 months later-
Devs: "Hey guys, we've got big Terraria news!"
PC Players: "Ooh, you're resuming development and giving us those patches at long last?"
Devs: "We're releasing a console version of Terraria that comes with this additional content that is not on the PC and we have no stated schedule for releasing on the PC"
PC Players: "What! My Patches, the console players get these patches that I was promised and I don't? What is this?"
Console Players: "All PC players are such elitist jerks, seriously just STFU, why is it so bad that we get the game!"
