My brother and I have just decided to delve into the sparse world of Gamecube games, despite having had a backwards-compatible Wii for a little more than half a year. Of course, my first pick was Pikmin (ha, bad game pun). I didn't go to Gamestop with any intention of picking up this amazing game because of the severe scarcity of this game, but there it was. It was a no-brainer. I bought it and loaded it up and reveled in one of the greatest games to ever grace the lowly Gamecube. No matter how old this game gets, amassing hordes of Pikmin and launching strategic assaults on massive creatures will always be fun. On the other hand the simple yelp and disappearing ghost of a dying Pikmin seem simple yet somehow make one feel genuinely sad and remorseful at the loss of even one Pikmin. The game was greatly crafted, the environments were beautiful for the Gamecube and even stood up to some competitors on other consoles. Despite a few control problems (dividing Pikmin and making them stay seems a bit difficult at times) I will most definitely enjoy this game for quite a while.
My brother, on the other hand, has hit a Zelda kick. Not a bad thing at all; you'd be hard-pressed to find a bad Zelda game (outside of those scary bad CD-i games). He set out to find Windwaker, but to no avail. To sate his appetite he bought Four Swords. Honestly, I thought it was just a tacky port but I was wrong. It has a weird combo of Windwaker-esque elements and GBA graphics that set up a weird visual composition; not bad, just weird. I haven't personally played it yet, but watching him it is most definitely a unique experience. Gamefly let him have his Windwaker kick until we manage to track down a copy, so hopefully we'll have a new Zelda game to put on our shelf.
In regards to more GC games, I'm keeping an eye out for Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. It's definitely an interesting game with quite the addicting side show, the Chaos. I'm not quite sure why, but playing with the Chaos was fun. Go figure.
