If nothing else I know how to make a post name sound dramatic don't I. Anyways, just like from the preview of the games expected for Q2-Q3, I'm rounding up my list of games I need to get my hands on... and go broke in the process. With two sports games as Madden and NHL already in my pocket, this time of the year becomes a chore for a sports junky.
NBA2k9
I was sold on EA's Live 09 until every recently, until the Momentous II trailer. Then I did a 180 and came back to the 2k series, the one I trusteed all this time. I played the demo, both games look good, but 2k still has the edge. Live just feels too choppy and unrealistc. For sure it remains the leader in arcade style basketball, but to get as close to the real thing, there is nothing but 2k when it comes to it. Player motions are more fluid, perhaps even if the grafics lag they are not too far behind. Its 2ks attention to detail that blows me away year in and year out though. They add small components such as the animated crowd, small details of the gameplay. And 5 vs 5 online mode for all of your enjoyment.
FIFA 09
I haven't bought a soccer game in three years, I rented them all the time. Reason being, EA didn't exactly make great leaps over time. This year I feel like that's changed. The demo feels miles ahead of 08. All of the customizations such as create a place a humangous to a soccerpath.... And did I mention 10v10 online? I think its the winning formula this year. Playing sports games as they were meant to be played.
Dead Space
If you like having the **** scared out of you and you're not excited about Dead Space there is something seriously wrong with you. This game looks absolutely magnificent for the genre. Sure it borrows the story line from Doom 3 almsot to a T from what I can see, well except that its not hellspawns but rather space aliens doing the murdering. But this game looks amazing. I think its the concept of an every day man (in this case space mechanic) having to deal with horror that draws me in. Or maybe its strategic dismemberment, which is a facny way for say you have the freedom to chop off limbs as you please.
Saint's Row II
Saint's Row one was no GTA IV, neither will this be, but in all honesty I think we should stop comparing all free roaming games to GTA, its way past thtat point in time. the difference between Saints Row and other "clones" though, is that it is its own game. It took some details of GTA and turned them for itself. Its more humorous, light, and over all over the top were as GTA took a gritty turn at the corner of realism and grey. :D Terrific voice actining, a promising single player campaign and multiplare. This game has me brimming with anticipation.
Far Cry 2
Take one of the least explored continents on Earth, coupple it with 50km2 of free roaming environment, dynamic weather, and strong AI and I am fairly sure you have one of the best games to ever hit the shelves. From what I've seen so far, Far Cry 2 looks absolutely amazing. Grafics looks to par and beyond, the AI respons as I would expect a rational person to respond, and the immersion factor is huge. Never going from first person to any other view, always in the shoes of your hero... Far Cry 2, here I come...
Fallout 3
I don't even need to write anything here. Everyone who knows gaming is expecting Fallout 3, or as people called it Oblivion with guns, which it's not. Definitely I see similarity, right down to the same voice actors, but this game should be so much greater that Elder Scrolls IV. It has the potential of an already built fan base, an amazing premis,e truly captivating environments, a rail gun, and a cannon that can shoot teddy bears...
Guitar Hero World Tour
With the popularity of Rock Band on the climb, it was only a matter of time before Guitar Hero came out with their own remedy for the virtual band junkies everywhere. And although I feel like this may slowly be killing the real Rock and Roll, for me, a tone def persons whom never had a prospect to even touch a guitar or drums, this is all I need.
Gears of War 2
The first one was Epic in terms of scale, battles, and presentation, it deliver. The second one looks even better. Chain saw battles, added curb stomps, new enemies, same deep story line (hopefully longer), it all seems to make GeOW2 a contender for the GOTY aleady. Time will tell.
Left 4 Dead
Valve knows online gameplay, and with this, it seems they are doing it right. They are pitting 4 players in a Zombie infested world for some co-op fun. It's a great way to start the game, its a great premise, and with Valve's history of delivering the multiplayer experience of a life time, this has potential.
Mirror's Edge
This game loooks to out of the ordinary for me to get. EA seems to be investing in originality now rather than just stapling numericals and in game advertising onto all its games. Perhaps they realized what makes a good publisher for games. Perhaps not since NFS is still in play. THis game looks like a fun concept but I haven't seen much of it to say why I would want it. I just know that I do.
NFS: Undercover
With Pro Street I thought they killed the series of street racing, it felt like they clubed it or took it out back and put shells in it's skull. With this, they seem to be going back to their roots. Immersion, story, and great great racing be it against opponents or from the cops.
