Equipping a staff and calling your character a mage as you make your way from cutscene to cutscene through a completely linear storyline is not role-playing in any way, shape, or form.
I repeat: there is no role-playing in Final Fantasy.
Again, mages, summoners, knight, theives. They are all roles you play as. A very simple definition.
