Alright, this topic is about Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry as series'.
I have played both, and I noticed many striking similarities between the two games.
First of all, the obvious. They both feature a badass warrior as he runs around and slashes the hell out of supernatural enemies.
They are both bloody and stylishly violent.
They both carry around a legendary sword and can even get other weapons and get them upgraded.
They are both extremely acrobatic and in some form or another can do a double jump (Ryu can bounce off walls)
In both games, you fight certain bosses multiple times.
They each have their own form of "devil trigger," or overdrive gauge in which strength or power is enhanced in some way (ninpo).
In both games, you can collect items to increase your health bar.
In both games, there are statues at which you can buy upgrades for your weaponsand items.
Enemies drop currency, health, and magic points when they die, and the shapes are similar and they are both brightly-colored.
Both have parts with horror kind of themes.
Both have underwater combat.
In Devil May Cry, you have infinite ammo. In Ninja Gaiden, while the arrows are limited, you have unlimited shurikens.
Both games have a no-holds-barred evil difficulty mode.
In the later games of both series, a player has to start on Normal and die a few times to unlock easy mode.
Both series release Special Edition versions of their games months after the originals come out.
The platforming elements are very similar.
The puzzle elements are almost identical. (Used Rusty key)
Each game is divided up into roughly 15 Chapters.
You are rated at the end of each mission with a grade based on how well you did.
In early games of both series, the camera was often at points not free to move.
In both games, you go into hell.
In both games, you destroy the lord of all evil.
In both games, you do various missions with a female character with her own storyline.
The list goes on and on. I keep thinking of similarities between the two franchises.
So this topic has two purposes, one, to discuss whether you think these games influence each other or not, and two, which series is better, which does a better job, features of the games you do like, don't like, etc.
I think since Devil May Cry came out much earlier than Ninja Gaiden (XBOX Ninja Gaiden, not the old 2D ones) that it influenced much of the gameplay of NG. To me, there are so many similarities between NG and DMC that there is obviously some connection. NG has its differences of course, and there are many obvious differences as well, in that NG doesn't have guns, and that NG is based on Ninjas and DMC is based more on the supernatural while NG mixes the supernatural and military stuff.
Personally, I like Ninja Gaiden better. The combat is more fun, the combat is harder and using a katana and playing as a ninja is really cool.
