Seems like The Greens are the best option of the three parties here. Pity they also stand for a whole lot of rubbish stuff too. *waits to be down voted*
"but I don't think I'm ready to call them a new form of storytelling, and beyond that, an effective medium to tell stories." - Dutton All I can do is laugh. You play GTA as an example to see an effective story telling medium? Bioshock I can understand, but I still would have stayed away for shooters. He should have tried some more traditional adventure games to see a better example. Why didn't they used Monkey Island? The Longest Journey? Siberia? Ever 17? Ico? Something that really IS a story in game form. I am an avid reader, but I enjoy a good story in a game much more than in a book or a film. Having that "interactivity" is a way to understand a character in a way that would normally be impossible. "Sure, The Sims has characters with emotions, but they are pretty shallow compared to Dostoyevsky," Juul said. "Complicated emotions and social relations in games often get delegated to cut-scenes, where developers are spared having to implement them in the game rules." Again, why are we talking about The Sims? The Sims doesn't even really have a story... what a silly comparison.
Nick Earl | Senior Vice President, EA Games Label "With all that is going right about the expanded availability of games to new audiences, we still make the core experiences way, way too remote and challenging. ...The time is right to come up with mechanisms, designs, and methods to allow casual and non-core gamers to experience all that we produce." This is just one of the stupidest answers I have ever seen. So what he's saying is put the focus on the casual games? Then you're only going to lose the hardcore gamers! Where do you think most of the money in the gaming industry comes from? Sure, casual contribute a huge amount of $, but it's the hardcore gamers who will be purchasing multiple consoles, buying special editions and putting most of their spare (and sometimes needed) money into gaming. As a long-standing gamer I find his comment offensive and ignorant. I guess that's why we see more bad EA titles than good ones.
I work at EB Games, and almost every day I get parents or kids coming in and asking about DS Flash Cards and have absolutely no idea its illegal. Apparently all their kids friends have them. I would have thought it was obvious downloading games to it was illegal... Apparently not.
