Except nostalgia IS a huge factor with a lot of reviews. People seem to give certain titles more leniency because it's expected to automatically be a good title. Seems like Tom took off the fanboy goggles and reviewed Skyward Sword on the same level as any other game, and not a Zelda title that's generally expected to get an auto 9+ score.
With that said, I haven't played Skyward Sword yet (but plan to as soon as I can), but I can see where he's coming from with his review. Nintendo fans put WAY too much blind faith in their products.

No doubt nostalgia plays a role but it has its limits. Again, i restate my point, if the game is severly broken controlwise- nostalgia cant save it.Its not a Nintendo fanboy thing, its a common sense thing. If a game is broken, its broken. I'd hardly call Famitsu, Edge or GameInformer Nintendo fans...
Neither Destructoid, Giantbomb or Joystiq. Buuut the SW entertainment relies on these unexpected flops, so if you start getting too reasonable you'll get ignored .
Besides, anyone who intended to get TLoZ: SS is still going to get it, regardless of what Gamespot scored it (even moreso considering its great metacritic).
Too true! And yep i pre-ordered the bundle picking it up first thing when it launches..I'll reserve full judgement till i play it :) I'm just curious at the inconsistency between Tom's experience and what we've seen in other reviews so far (speaking specifically of controls, not the game structure).
