Also, it's not too hot, right? If it is, the radeon 5xxx series will throttle down your game performance by reducing clocks.

My temperatures are rather cool, they never go too high, so I doubt that is the problem.

I'm going to try previous drivers and see if that solves this.

By the way, out of curiosity, what temperatures does your 5850 run at, full load, and what fan speed? and stock coolers?

5850 peaks at 57C, Fan speed at 1650RPM and stock cooler at 55C.

Doh, shoulda saw that one coming.

I have a Cooler Master GX 550W power supply, which I was told is a pretty decent power supply.

I have no idea why, but my 5850 seems to be underperforming. For example, with the serious sam hd free weekend, my fps can sometimes drop to 20/30 at 1920x1080. I also tried 3dmark 06 and got 18k, whilst my friend with the exact same rig as mine but with a 5830 instead of a 5850 got 20k. Also, on games like red faction, team fortress sometimes my fps drops to 30. Is this normal for a 5850?

I have upgraded my 5850's driver so that isn't the problem.

I have an i5 750 @ 2.67 GHz and 4gigs ddr3. I read somewhere that my processor could be bottlenecking my gpu, does this mean I will need to overclock my i5? If so, where do I start?

Thanks in advance.

My friend said something about needing 2x6 pins for the 5850(???) and I have no idea what this means, can anyone explain?

I was wondering if my 550W power supply ( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-201-CM ) can handle a 5850

( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-AS )? How can I tell that the power supply can handle it?
