The current games collection doesn't distinguish between games from different regions. This means that, even if you imported a game that may have dramatic differences, you can still only add the North American version to your collection. It also means that even if a game is already out in another region, such as Fragile for the Wii or Stalker: Call of Pripyat on the PC, you can't add them to your collection, even if you imported, until the North American release date. Hardly huge issues, but irritating nonetheless.

Not all that surprising, given that he hates ~90% of Japanese games.

I'd say get it, and hold off on one of the other two. I haven't played the US Valkyria Chronicles, but I have the Japanese Senjou no Valkyria, and unless it changed alot in translation, its one of the best games on the PS3.
