I can't back up my stuff. I can't get past start up. I am using my desktop computer at the moment to access this site. I've recently bought Dragon Age; Origins and have played for about 80 hours over the past week. Will that all be gone if I do system restore?

Okay, after sending the report thingy a nother window has poped up saying;

"Windows cannot repair this computer automatically

If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this messgae, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistence.

Click Finish to exit and shut down your computer."

Below that are two link one is "View diagnostic and repair details", the other is "View advanced options for system recoverty and support". After clicking the first link it reads;

"Startup repair diagnosis and repair log

------------------------

Last successful boot time: 1/4/2010 10:17:14 PM (GMT)

Number of repair attempts: 6

Session details

---------------------------

System Disk = \Device\Harddisk0

Windows directory = C:\Windows

AutoChk Run = 0

Number of root causes = 1

Clicking the other option brings me to System Recovery Options. Should I do a system recovery?

Thanks.

hello,

So here's the problem...
Yesterday my laptop computer running on Windows 7 was working fine and then this morning when I went to turn it on it would start to turn on and then the screen would go black. The backlight is still on but nothing else is happening. The only way I can then turn it off is by holding the power button down. When I then turn it back on a screen pops up (like the one that does if you fress f8 on startup) and gives two options; one is to start windows normally or the second is to run startup repair (recommended). Starting Windows Normally results in the same thing I mentioned before so I ran the stratup repair. It then spent a few minutes trying to find the problem and then restarted itself. After restarting there was no difference and the problem still persisted. After a few times of doing this a message came up saying that startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically. This is what is on my laptop screen now. It also gives me an option to send the error report to microsoft. Should I do this? In a drop down window below this it gives the problem details. They are as follows;

Problem Signature:
Problem Event Name: Startup Repair Offline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 21220132
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 06: 6
Problem Signature 07: CorruptAcl
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

The only thing that I can think may be the cause is that it is a software problem. On the startup repair window it says that recently installed software could be a possible cause of the problem. The only software I installed yesterday was a few automatic updates and some downloadable content for Dragon Age; Origins. I only installed Windows 7 onto my computer maybe two weeks ago and these are the first lot of updates it has installed.

PLease any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know what to do. Thanks.

ps. Sorry about the lengthy post.

Which games are you playing? It sounds like you are playing games without widescreen support and your PC is now displaying them CORRECTLY. If you were playing games stretched to widescreen, and now are dissatisfied with the superior visual experience... well, I have no hope for you. If I interpreted the details of your "issue" incorrectly I apologize.jedinat
This is happening with all games. Both old and new.

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"] you're selecting the wrong aspect ratio in games.... nothing else.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by this? You mean like the resolution? I tried them all none of them fix it. Sometimes there is a black strip at the top and bottom too but I manage to get rid of them by adjusting the resolution but the two srips on the side won't go.

hello, (second problem for today) Since installing Windows 7 on my computer COD4 refuses to work at all. When ever I try to run either the single player or multiplayer mode it would start up and then after a few seconds crash and close itself. When I first got the game I originally had a different problem when I ran it on Vista which I managed to fix by updating my sound card driver. Is this something I can fix similarly and if not how can I fix this? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello, Since I installed Windows 7 on my computer my games refuse to run in wide-screen although I have wide-screen monitor. When my computer ran on Vista they were fine. Every time I play there are no problems whilst playing it's just annoying that there are two black strips on each side of the screen. Adjusting the resolution in the game's options does nothing to fix it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.
