I used to have this problem, but I found a solution hold the nunchuck vertically in the air. That is to say, the control stick should be facing you and the c/z buttons should be facing up.
Is it that hard to hit pause, get up, open the remote, pull out the dead batteries, put them in the "dead" bin, take two batteries out of the "charged" bin, put them in, close the remote, sit down, and unpause? It took me longer to type it than it take to really do it.

Dude, its not that its hard to do that, its that it is expensive. While buying rechargeable batteries seems expensive, if you are a hard core gamer, it will save you money in the long run.
