In my opinion, yes. It's the first in a long long time to actually do something new. Since the NES it has pretty much been "improve the graphics for this gen" up until the Wii broke the mould.
These graphs and stats really amuse me. Why bother? It's pretty simple if you ask me. If you like the system and games, then play them. If you don't, then don't.

Bowser: He usually has the highest top speed so as long as you don't run into walls or get blown up (horrible acceleration) he's awesome. Plus plowing through the competition is just plain fun.
