My thoughts on DLC

So this seems to be a fiery topic among gamers, but I have always had my doubts over the 'fairness' of DLC. I mean, on the one hand, it's something that took the developer longer to create after the title was published, it extends the gameplay beyond what could be done before release date.... And then I saw this: http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2009/10/21/microtransactions-coming-to-fable-iii/ I don't know how common this knowledge is, but in short, Peter Molyneux wants to bring DLC into Fable 3 that you can purchase in game from vendors. Some will be better weapons/clothing that he said might sell for ~$1.70 in-game. Some areas of the map might cost MS points as well, like unlocking a new island, he says. All towards the effort of making a more 'harmonious' relationship between games and DLC. I was really pissed when I read this, especially seeing as how I've defended DLC in the past. Some people complained that Dragon Age DLC was released on day one, and I actually agreed with the developer on that one. They said it wasn't necessarily going to be done by day 1, but it was, so they released it. And, they said, it's not like it would've fit on the disc anyways. I had no problem paying a few bucks for some DLC to complement a game spent well over 100 hours on. But this Fable 3 crap, well, they're planning it! Ahead of time! Almost like holding content back from the game to charge money for it. And who doesn't go to an in-game vendor and see that the DLC equipment is the best thing they have, and want to buy it? If you've spent several hours on your character making him/her the best, why wouldn't you want the best equip? It's $1.70? Pocket change, right? No piece of equipment is worth that when you can download entire extra campaigns on L4D for $5, or new levels on TFU for a similar price. And what if you were playing Fable 3, and along comes one of the those travel points and something comes up that says 'Travel to next area? 1200 MSP' What would you do? You want to play the game don't you? I've paid for tons of DLC in my time. I understand that developers aren't going to continue to provide content for a game if they aren't being paid for it. I wouldn't expect that. But I don't want them to just render a sword a different color, give it new stats, and try to sell it to me in-game. Alright, let's not wave cigarettes in front of children here people. This is just something I can't support, regardless of enjoying Fable 2.
