I think this is an issue that will never disappear because even with all these new technologies, lag will still appear no matter what. Keep in mind that even though internet speeds are way faster than before, these games are also getting bigger and complicated.
I guess it's just a matter of self satisfaction. If it's fun, with or without lag, you play. If it's not, you don't.

P.S. DC, I think you said it best in your old sig where it said '... no excuses, anything goes ...', or something like that.

This latest hiccup by Sony just makes me think that this is the perfect opportunity for Microsoft to lower the 360's price. Imagine, later in August or September whenthe $499 60gig PS3's are out of stock, while the 360 Elite is on sale for $399.

With a $250/$300/$400 price tag(or near the vicinity) for the 360 core/premium/elite, with games like Mass Effect and Halo 3 coming soon, MS would be able to crush Sony and maybe even compete with Nintendo. Jeez, as I write this it seems more clear to me that Sony needs a $500 price tag at the very least to compete with MS and Nintendo. What are they thinking???

Man, for a company as big as Microsoft, this is ridiculous and sad. When you have this many people complaining about system failures, with the competition they're getting from Sony and Nintendo, you'd think they would address this issue quickly and firmly. This isn't helping their image at all, and it actually makes you wonder if something sinister is going on inside the company. I wonder if they're doing this to get rid of old 360's to pave way for new reliable ones, or they're doing this just to up their 360 sell count(is that possible even?).

[QUOTE="ymi_basic"][QUOTE="banjobear_basic"]This game better have mutiplayer. It would be a travesty if this next-gen FPS control won't be applied to where it really counts: mutiplayer. toment

Yes! Something with modes and options akin to the Timesplitters serieswould be nice.

I disagree, the Metroid Prme gameplay style does not suit itself to multiplayer. One of the main things that make the Prime series so great is the atmosphere generated when exploring uninhabited environments, surviving the native animals and uncovering traces of dead, ancient societies. It's a lame acronym, but Metroid Prime isn't a FPS series, it's FPA.

If the multiplayer is made up of generic team-/deahmatch/capture the flag scenarios it'd undermine what Retro is doing with the singleplayer. (imo)

Though I also believe that the single player mode for Metroid Prime is more important, the new control schemes sure look to fit in nicely as a FPS. I mean, it has been said that so far the controls feel better than the dual stick way, so why not have some FPS style multiplayer modes? Steal, dare I say, Halo's thunder? Personally, I'd like to see some Splinter Cell-esque multiplayer in Prime. That'd be awesome.

Though I believe that every game, be it handheld or console, has a chance to win GOTY, I'd be very disappointed at console game developers if that happens(no offense to handhelds). With all that power consoles have these days, alldevelopers need to do is come up with creative, fun content. Really, it seems like David against ten Goliaths. But anything can and seems to happen these days. Look at the Nintendo Wii sales for instance :o

Still, the 10 score is like the holy grailof the Gamespot rating system, isn't it? I mean, I really liked how they were reluctant to give away that score to every single 'great' game. Now, it seems as thoughthe perfect score isgoing to be less appreciated.

A .5 rating system...means they're generalizing the score more...
Gamespot's going a little towards the casual side to please a broader audience I guess?
It looks user friendly though.

As for lack of "quality" games for PS3 thats wrong in that context as well. If quality were truly a major factor in sales (its not) then the PS3 would be outselling the wii. Now if you said it lacks the type of games that appeal to the market, then yeah.

Multi-Alias

True, there aren't a lot of quality games out there in Japan for the PS3 that draws people away from their Wii's. Sure, there's Virtua Fighter 5 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma and et cetra, and these awesome games are being bought by the couple thousands of traditional gamers, who are the people who are buying the PS3 console. The PS3 right now simply does not have the library of games that people are interested into justify the ridiculous price of the console. I guess you can say they kind of messed up from the start, at launch, when they had Resistence: Fall of Manas their flagship launch title. No offense, Resistence is a pretty good game, but when did an FPS succeed, consistantly,in Japan? Thus is the reason why the 360 isn't doing well in Japan either; the 360 is a good console designed for the US market in mind, and is especially good for FPS's. Though other genres are starting to show their faces, they aren't helping in changing the 360's image.

Still, I do think the PS3 will do better when Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 comes out. Let's just hope for Sony's sake that these franchises are still exclusives.

I'm looking forward to this as well.
The controls look fresh and intuitive.
Man, that looks like Wind Waker.

I went to the Sony Playstation 3 launching event in Korea yesterday, and I'd like to post a few thoughts on the launch and the system in general.

  • Reportedly, 261 out the 777availablePS3's were sold at the launch event. Including all the preorders, sales estimates are at about 3,000 for the first day. Now, that sure does look like asmall figure, and I'm sure the people at Sony must be disappointed as they must have prepared allof thoseconsoles for a reason(to sell, duh), but truly, it is wellknown here that the people who really wanted tobuy a PS3 already have the Japanese version, as we live right next to Japan. Yes, the imported Japaneseversion has been in stores for quite some time, and they are quite easy to find.
  • The 80G version is selling at about $540 in US dollars, soI dare say it's dirt cheap herecompared to other countries. :P
I guess the price drop is already implimented here in Korea?
  • One thing that puzzles me is - why 80 gigs, and not 100 or 120? Though I am pushing it a little here, it would not have been that big of a cost difference, and it would have made it look bigger in more ways than one. In a marketing point of view, the 2-digit number 80 just doesn't look well against 100 or 120. Also, how much of a difference is 20 gigs going to make on a system that is supposed to offer some kind of an online broadcast feature here in Korea?
  • Also, I really hated how the people at Sony prepared for this event. On a really hot, sunny day, plastic chairs with no sun protection were placed in the middle for buyers, and on the side, there were chairs undertents for themselves. WTF???
  • Something I really like about the 80g PS3 - PS3 games and blu-ray movies here share the same regional codes as Japan and the US. That will make it much more easier for me, as I tend toplay US games(can't speak Japanese).
  • Just for the fun of comparing, a little over 300 360's were sold at the KoreaXBOX 360 launching event from long ago.
Again, numbers look small, but from a country completely dominated by Sony that's not bad. I guess. Also, the 360 has been quite successful here since, and safe to say, it has become a force in Korea.
  • On a side note, the Nintendo Wii has yet to set a release date for Korea, but looking at all the trouble they are having supplying the Wii in the US, Japan, and other countries, I don't think they'll officially release it here till next year.As expected, the importedJapanese version has been on sale, but like all other places in the world, they're are mightly hard to find. Nintendo did release the DS here a couple months ago, and it has been selling like hotcakes.

Well, that's about it. Though I went to the launch(as a general fan of videogames), I didn't buy one today. Still too expensive for me.:(
I plan on buying one when - it gets cheaper, arumble-implemented controller comes out,and most of all,a few more interestinggames that distinguishes itself from the other consoles come out. So, unfortunately,I won't be buying one soon.Iguess Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 will force me into buying one, but until then I'll be waiting.:)
